Fenris was like her. When she was speaking to him she did not have to think like when she spoke with the others. He did not make her confused like the others did. At least not in the same way. Still, there were many things she did not understand about him; so, she followed him. She never let herself be known when she followed him; she just watched. Today he was delivering things again, she did not understand why he did that. Why did he work in this place? His ability would make it easy to steal things. Why did he not do that? She did not understand.

As he neared the forest she noticed the creatures approaching Fenris. She could smell them long before they actually made themselves known. For a moment she thought about saying something to warn him, but instead she kept to the shadows, watching for what he would do. It soon became obvious that there were too many for him to take on alone though, so she came out of the shadows, claws unsheathed and lunged.

With a quick motion she sliced the creature, splitting it in two.

He'd been steeled for another assault, but it never came. The bestial wails and stench of death were all that pervaded his senses. The wyrsa were lifeless corpses twitching as their automated processes shut down even as he was turning.

And he blinked. "You." He was thankful, to the Maker and to chance itself, but he was still surprised to see her there. His eyes swept across the carnage. "You...do good work."

She sheathed her claws, not even taking notice of the blood dripping down and looked at him.

"You should be more careful."

He gave her a nod, curt, understanding, agreeing. "I should." He really had let himself slip too far into a comfortable mediocrity. "Thank you."

She looked confused, why was he thanking her? "For what?"

"For the assistance." He sheathed his sword. "It's possible I would no longer be among the living were it not for you."

"I did not think you would need help." Or she would have said something to him about the creatures sooner. "I was incorrect."

"I...was caught by surprise." He looked aside. Normally, he could have handled it with no problems. "I've never had a creature fully pass through me before."

"You should practice with your abilities more." If he didn't even know how to do that then he clearly needed more training with them.

"I think of them as more of a curse than abilities." A constant, burning reminder of the life he'd never truly escape. "Perhaps that's why I do not."

Her own abilities had come to her at a painful price, but she had never considered them anything but abilities. "Why do you call them a curse?"

"Because of them, I'm never freed of the memories they bring, of what I've been forced to do with them." He looked down.

She blinked at him. "That does not mean you should not train with them."

"I do, to an extent, but I've never...wondered what they're capable of." He looked thoughtful for a moment. "It...never even occurs to me."

"Why?" Although, she couldn't say she'd ever thought of testing her own abilities, that was all done for her.

He tilted his head to the side, thoughtful. "If I knew, I would have done something about it."
