The chasm was, to say the least, unsettling but that was nothing new to the Underworld. Everything was unsettling somehow. He arrived at the chasm, landing with a whoosh of displaced air, and looked around. He would have to see about getting those sigils taken off of Dean's ribs -- and follow through on that thought this time. Dean was off to the side, on the other side of the chasm; Castiel took to flight again and landed some feet behind the man.

And then frowned at the way Dean was looking at the chasm. "If you are thinking of going down there, don't."

Dean snorted and turned around to give Cas a grin that had guilty written all over it before he expelled a breath "Who me, nah. I got a thing against pits." He did and thinking about going in to that one had begun to turn his stomach just a little.

"Somethin' ain't right with this thing, makes me feel weird, lookin' in there, like I'm seein' things." Dean stepped back from the edge and closer to the angel as his eyes narrowed.

On the other side, he could have sworn he saw some thing all too familiar crawling out "You see that?"

Castiel gave Dean a look that told him exactly what he thought of that; of course Dean had thought about going down there, whether he had a thing against pits or not. He turned away, peering at the pit without really seeing it with human eyes. "It feels like the cave," he answered. So, no. It wasn't right.

He blinked just before Dean spoke, something prickling at the edge of his senses. He looked up as Dean pointed out the thing across the chasm. "I see it. Hang on." He raised a hand and touched Dean's forehead, to bring them both across the chasm. They landed some distance from the creature; Castiel wasn't so keen on tempting fate quite that moronically.

Dean knew he was busted but that was a moot point when he was whisked away on Angel Airlines and caught his balance as they landed, letting his stomach stop rolling.

The hunter cocked his head to the side and just stared for a moment. "Son of a bitch, it's a fuckin' Djinn." He saw the odd markings, the strange eyes and Dean felt his stomach drop. Had it all been an illusion all along? Right as he thought the creature turned it's head, noticing the hunter and the angel and began to advance on them.

It was, indeed, a Djinn and Castiel's blade was in his hand a moment later. If something was coming out of that pit, it was certainly not friendly -- never mind a Djinn rarely was in the first place. He stepped aside, to both give himself and Dean room to work, and to give the creature two targets. With any luck, it would go after Castiel first. The angel could at least keep it occupied without too much trouble while Dean finished it off.

"Watch yourself," he told Dean, risking a glance at the pit. If it was spitting out Djinn, there was no telling what might come next. "That is not the only thing in the chasm."

Dean had already crouched down and pulled that knife from his boot, as he circled around to try and get the Djinn in between the two of him his eyes suddenly went wide "CAS! BEHIND YOU!" There was a second one and Dean whirled then, knowing Cas would engage that one as he looked at the oncoming one that had gotten much closer by now.

"C'mon on tattoo boy, I'm not lookin' to go to sleep right now." The hunter charged then, the blade almost caught the Djinn but the creature was fast and moved in time to just dodge the hunter as it attempted to grab at him from behind, Dean tucked and rolled at the right moment as he came up behind the creature in a crouched position.

Castiel was already aware of the second, though Dean's warning was certainly appreciated. He moved quickly, ducking and sidestepping as the Djinn charged. He reversed his grip on the blade and made to follow the creature, intending to put it down quickly, then go help Dean with his.

The Djinn, though, was a little faster than Castiel anticipated; it spun on one heel and blocked Castiel's swing with an upraised arm. It shoved back at him, but it really wasn't a match for an angel's strength.

Or an angel who would, when the situation called for it, fight dirty. Castiel landed a left-handed punch straight into the Djinn's throat; it staggered the creature and Castiel lashed out with the dagger, opening a deep gash across its chest. It wasn't a killing blow. Yet.

Dean had just enough time to glance and see that Cas was handling himself before that Djinn came for him. It grappled with the hunter, trying to dislodge the knife from his hand.

"Son of a bitch, you're one ugly bastard." Dean finally got his body angled and slammed a boot in to the creatures stomach, while he jerked backward with his weight, sending him and the Djinn in to a roll.

It was a few moments before who would come out on top was obvious and by that point they had reached the edge of that chasm, rather dangerously close as the hunter came out as the one straddled across the creatures chest. Slamming the blade down, it ended up in the Djinn's shoulder as the thing was injured but still managed to throw the hunter off, the man moving quickly to his feet.

While the Djinn staggered, Castiel stole a glance toward Dean and his opponent. While they were far too close to the edge of the chasm for Castiel's liking, Dean was holding his own -- and so the angel would not interfere. He turned his attention back to the Djinn facing him, meeting the creature's clumsy charge with a slash of his blade.

The Djinn's throat was sliced open, and it stumbled to a halt, hands rising in vain to try to stem the flow of blood. Castiel raised a hand and, a moment later, the Djinn burst into flames. He probably could have done that in the first place, in all honesty, but venting somehow held some appeal.

He turned, intending to help Dean with his Djinn, despite earlier letting the hunter handle his own battle, but stilled when something dark and too-damned familiar prickled the edge of his senses. His eyes widened and a mere second later, the growling echoed behind him.

Ah, hell.

Dean had just managed to slam the blade in to the creature's throat and roll away from the edge when he heard that growling.

The hunter froze, like a deer in the headlights, even his blood seemed to stop pumping. It couldn't be, there was no way it could be. The memories of his death rushed back, those claws ripping his flesh. Finding himself on that rack.

Dean took a step backwards, away from the edge as he shook his head "No, no hell no." He knew it, before he even turned, he felt that breath of air on his leg.

"Son of a bitch." The hunter whirled, just in time to dodge what was definitely hell hound claws headed for his leg.

He heard the scrabbling of claws on the ground in the split second before the hound leaped toward his back. Castiel spun, driving his blade deep into whatever hellhound flesh was immediately available. It wasn't a killing blow, but it was enough to knock the thing back. That was all he needed, all he'd been trying for.

His more immediate concern was Dean and the 'hound snapping at his friend's heels. With a whoosh of displaced air, he appeared at Dean's side, putting himself between the hound and the hunter. He stabbed downward, the tip of the knife driving into the hellhound's neck just behind its skull. That was a killing blow.

He glanced at the chasm, then over Dean's shoulder. "Dean, there are more." So wake up and start shooting.

It helped, Dean wouldn't admit it but after his own experience and what had happened to Jo, those things scared him. But Cas's sudden saving of his 'ass' and words snapped the hunter out of his trance as he jumped up and aimed his weapon.

"How many?" He could feel the breath and the hunter fired out a quick shot, it hit as he heard the beast hit the ground. Son of a bitch, they could be surrounded and the only way he'd know was then they started coming for him.

He whipped that gun around to the right, he thought he heard the ground scrape up there and fired off two more shots "Son of a bitch, it had to be freakin' hellhounds!"

The man couldn't even see the hounds and managed to kill one with one shot. For a moment, Castiel's attention was drawn to the chasm. "There could be more coming." When mixed with the simple, hungry dark energy seeping from the tear in the ground, the individual signature of any one creature was almost impossible to pick out until they'd left the chasm.

The soft echo of the hellhounds footsteps brought his attention back, and he pointed out the closest hound. "There." Provided the hound didn't move much in the time Dean took to aim, they'd be down one more hound.

He could feel them, it was strange, but he could hear their breaths, Dean's senses had finally kicked in to over drive and when Cas pointed, his gun swung almost in time with the Angel's warning.

Dean fired two rapid shots and the sound of a thud was heard. He dropped the empty clip, grabbed a fresh one from his pocket and slammed it in.

"Bring it on you slobberin' sons of bitches" The hunter muttered as he kept his back to Cas's, making sure that they were at least able to guard each other.

Three. Castiel moved to point out the next one, but then had to turn his attention to protecting his own flank as one of the three rushed him. Leaving Dean to hold his own for a moment, Castiel stepped forward to meet the charge, silver blade flashing as he swung it in a close arc.

The blade sank into flesh, scoring a lung shot just behind the hound's elbow. Snapping jaws latched onto Castiel's forearm; disgust crossed his features as he shoved the dying hound away.

Two, providing the chasm didn't spit more out at them.

"I really hate these things." It didn't matter if Cas talked back, Dean could very well just be talking at the moment to keep himself some what centered. As heard Cas dispatch another of the beasts.

It was that small moment of distraction that cost Dean as the leg of his jeans was suddenly ripped, the claws sinking in to his flesh "AH! SON OF A BITCH!" He bellowed as Dean kicked, landing the blow at the animal's chest even if he couldn't see it.

Enough to send it back, he fired a shot, but heard no thud. The yelp was there, he'd injured it but he could feel it circling him, he just had to get a good aim.
