Sam was pleased to see something familiar from home. He always liked going to the Roadhouse and to be honest, he was devastated when the first one was burned down. There was also the fact that he needed to have a break after what happened recently; hell, they all could use a break at this point. He walked straight up to the bar and smiled at Ellen.

"Hey. The place looks good."

"Sam!" Ellen met him at the door with a hug. They had been separated during the attacks and only managed to see each other in passing afterwards as Ellen worked to patch up the wounded. "Damn good to see you, kid."

"Thanks. It's not quite like the old place, but I think it'll do just fine. C'mon, there's food in the back and plenty of beer. You'd best hurry up and grab some, Dean heard there's pie."

He hugged Ellen tightly in return before pulling back to look at her. "It's really good to see you too, Ellen." Sam had mostly lost track of Ellen whilst the place was under attack and he was relieved to see that she was alright.

"Food and beer? Now you're spoiling me." He laughed and started to walk towards the back.

She echoed his laugh, "Hell Sam, someone's got to. Now hurry up, Dean's on his way and you know how your brother is when it comes to pie."

It was damned good having the boys around, Cas and Bobby too. The Roadhouse was starting to feel more like home with them talking and laughing in the bar. And if she didn't think about it too much, she could almost put Carthage out of her mind.

Almost.

"You can never stand between Dean and his pie," he grinned at her.

Ellen was family as far as he was concerned. Jo as well, but she wasn't here. Maybe that was for the best though. Bobby and Castiel were part of that family as well. It wasn't so bad down here with them all there.

She watched Sam dig into the spread with a smile. "Not if you wanted to keep all your fingers."

Ellen leaned back over the bar and pulled a cold one from the tap. "So.. how long you been here Sam? I get the idea we didn't exactly all show at the same time."

He paused from eating to answer her question. "I've been here over two months now, Ellen. Though it feels like a hell of a lot longer, you know?"

Her eyebrows shot up, "Two months? But.. I just saw you," she murmured. There was still quite a bit about the Underworld that she didn't understand remotely. Like how she was even still functioning. By all accounts, she should be dead. Or some kind of zombie or revenant.. but she wasn't.

Ellen pushed those somewhat grim thoughts from her mind. "Any tips on how to deal with the resident strangeness?"

"People can be pulled from different points in their timeline. I guess you got pulled from my future." The very same future that Sam had a heard a little about and wasn't happy with it at all. He didn't know what happened to Ellen or Jo just yet. Sam couldn't fully explain how or why people seemed to arrive from different points in time.

He took a swig of his beer. "Try to keep a level head at all times. And ask for help if you need it. Most of the people here are decent enough."

Ellen couldn't help but chuckle. Getting advice on being level-headed from a Winchester, would wonders never cease?

"So how're you liking it here, Sam? I get the idea that you and Cas have been here the longest."

Sam didn't even know where that advice had came from exactly, but it was something that he picked up from being here for so long.

"Honestly? I hate it. The things that have happened down here to me and those I know have sucked." He took another swig. "But, it's not all bad. I mean, I've got Dean here and all of you. It helps me deal with it better."

Ellen reached across the bar and grasped his wrist gently. "It's okay, Sam. We're all here now and while it may be horrible, we can face it together."

They'd manage. They always did.

His lips twitched up into a slight smile at that, thankful that Ellen was offering him reassurance. "Yeah, I know. But it also means that I have more people to worry about."

She winked and poured him a fresh beer. "We'll worry about each other, Sam. That's what we do."

"Now tonight isn't a night to worry. You're supposed to be here helpin me celebrate opening this place," she said, tossing a bar towel at him.

"Hey!" He mock protests when she throws the towel at him, holding his hands up in defence. "Easy there now, Ellen."

Draining his beer, he grinned at her. "Don't worry; I'm going to be celebrating all night if I can."
