So tonight I had dinner with
stargazen79 after not having seen him since the fall. We caught up some (well, whatever I couldn't read from his LJ!) and ate penne + red sauce (crushed tomatoes, roasted red bell peppers, red wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar, capers, kalamata olives, garlic, thyme, rosemary, boletus mushrooms) + side of green beans. Good times.
Until.
I get online and learn that Natalie Malone (Academy 2.0) has now become The Late Natalie Malone. As of Tuesday... well, she'll be missed. She's been a leukemia patient for the last year, and she was doing well -- everyone thought she was going to live. She was even going to have a bone marrow transplant last week until Thursday/Friday rolled around and she relapsed. There was nothing the doctors could do about it at that time, and she passed away on Tuesday. The news just started coming out in the last day or so.
It took awhile for that all to sink in. Alive. Not. Alive. Not. I needed comfort food, so I traipsed over to Safeway and bought half a honeydew melon plus four pounds of fresh strawberries. They're helping somewhat. If nothing else, they're nutritionally good for me. And I'm the only one buying produce at nearly 2 am anyway... everyone else either had copious quantities of beer or caffeinated beverages dominating their purchase. A story for the clerk?
There's a service this weekend. If you knew her (even just a little), contact me or someone you suspect might know about it and the information will be passed along.
I just don't know what to say or think anymore. Magic flute + magic fruit are just going to have to do it for me.
