I've been experiencing strange discomfort lately on my right side underneath the ribcage towards the back. I wouldn't call it pain, it's just discomfort and it's difficult to describe. At first, I jokingly thought "ha, it must be my liver." Which has been under assault for a long while beginning when I heavily abused dextromethorphan for a period of approximately 1.5 years whereupon I would ingest 600 mg per day at the very least. Usually more. There was light to moderate use for awhile before that. Dextromethorphan is very hard on the body and on the liver. About a year after I quit that {I would still take it sometimes but only once every few months} I started drinking a lot. That was about 2 years ago. Anyway, apparently the location where I'm experiencing the discomfort is indeed where the liver is supposed to be located. At first I thought it seemed odd that an organ could cause pain and discomfort but it actually can. This is me jumping to conclusions because it could be something else entirely but it's causing me some worry.
Every night I drink approximately 900 mL at 13% alcohol. This amount has stayed rather consistent for the past year. I think the year before that I may have drank more. It's difficult to recall but I know I used to black out regularly and I don't do that anymore. Anyway, in order to calculate grams you multiply the number of milliliters times the percentage in decimal form. 900 mL at 13% is 117 grams of alcohol I am consuming. A safe amount is considered to be 60 grams or less for women. A standard unit of alcohol is 8 grams. The safe amount of alcohol for women per week is 14 units. At 117 grams per night, I am consuming 14.63 units a day. So, I am drinking a week's worth of alcohol each night. 102 units per week. And that's just going by a standard night. Sometimes I drink more. Occasionally I'll drink a bit less but less generally means about 90 grams of alcohol in a night. It really doesn't feel like I drink a lot. I don't drink during the day and generally don't begin drinking around 11pm or midnight. Now that I'm looking at the numbers....that's a lot.
This is absurd and has to stop. I'm serious this time.
