I recall first encountering the term "hedonic psychology" (the study of pleasure and happiness) a little over a year ago, I believe. The main person behind these studies seems to be Dan Gilbert (or perhaps he is merely the only person utilizing the aforementioned phrase and thus appears disproportionately in my search results, either way is not ( Read more... )

Interesting post, thanks.

Certainly the point about our genes making us believe having children will bring happiness is an idea that has rolled around my head. Dunno though, the predominent genetic trick there is sexual pleasure I would say.

Wow, thanks for that. Was a lot of really interesting studies, and I like how the dude put it all together. He's an interesting speaker, to be sure.
