Fallout
“Maybe I should just go outside and check.”
Lex sighed. “Clark. It was a nuclear explosion. You can’t just go outside and check.”
Clark fidgeted. Lex had him there. He really couldn’t think of any reason why it should be okay for him to leave the bunker, especially not without exposing Lex. “What if someone’s hurt?”
Lex was sprawled out on a large leather sofa. Clark couldn’t imagine anyone else who would decorate their underground bomb shelter like some swank apartment, but Lex had the must comfortable looking bunker that Clark had ever seen. Most people only wished their apartments looked like this bomb shelter. Lex stretched his arms above his head and made a movement that looked sort of like a shrug. “I was the only one at the lab. And besides, if someone is hurt, there’s really not much you can do about it now.”
“You seem to be taking the fact that your entire lab blew up right behind us awfully well,” Clark said, frowning and crossing his arms.
Lex shrugged again. “Some experiments work out; some don’t.”
Clark raised an eyebrow at that. Word had gotten to him that Lex was doing some new experiments with meteor rock and nuclear fission, which really just seemed like a recipe for disaster and something Lex would know better by now to avoid. So he’d dropped by, just to maybe have a little talk with Lex about how it all seemed like a really bad idea, only when he’d shown up at the lab, Lex had been running out. He’d grabbed Clark’s arm as he ran by, pulling him with him as he yelled, “Hurry, it’s going to explode!”
Next thing he’d known, Clark was being hustled away from the lab. Lex had run over and thrown open a door in the ground that Clark hadn’t even seen, and then he’d yanked Clark down some stairs and into a bunker, pulling the door closed and sealing it behind them. Just as Clark had been about to ask what the hell was going on, the ground had rumbled slightly as something above them exploded. Lex had sighed, shook his head, and flopped onto the sofa. “Well, there goes my lab.”
Now Lex was examining his nails, picking at one that was torn at one corner. He seemed to be taking this all in stride, even for Lex, who could do nonchalant like nobody’s business. Clark wasn’t as good at reading Lex as he used to be, and he just couldn’t figure this out.
He looked around the bunker. It really could have been someone’s apartment. They were in what looked like a small living room which was connected to a fairly nice kitchen. There was a door on the other side of the room, which Clark thought probably led to a bedroom. He couldn’t imagine Lex would set up a place like this and leave out a place to sleep. Clark surreptitiously checked out the cement ceiling, using his x-ray vision to check out the damage from the explosion. Only he couldn’t see anything through the ceiling… it was just blank.
“Um, Lex? Is the bunker lined with something?”
Lex looked over at him. “Lead.”
“Why?”
Lex’s voice was bland. “Why not?”
Hmm, Clark thought. He really wasn’t sure how to respond to that. He walked over to the sofa and sat down next to Lex. They sat there together, quiet for a moment. Clark fidgeted. “So…”
Lex raised his eyebrows. “Yes?”
“Is there a chess board down here, somewhere?”
For the first time that night, Lex smiled. “Of course there is. Why don’t I grab it, and you can get us something to drink.”
Clark grinned. “Deal.”

For the fourth time in a row, Lex was only a few moves from efficiently kicking his ass at chess. Clark sighed.
Lex grinned. “Problem, Clark?”
“You know that I haven’t played chess for a while, right?”
“I’m sure that’s what it is,” Lex said, chuckling.
Clark rolled his eyes, as he flopped back onto the sofa. “So, exactly how long do we have to stay down here?”
“At least four days, although six would be better.”
Clark gaped. “Four to six days? Are you kidding me?”
“I never kid when it comes to nuclear fallout, Clark,” Lex said, dryly.
Clark hopped back up from the sofa and started pacing. “Six days? I can’t stay down here that long! What if people worry? We don’t even know what the damage from the explosion is like! We should be out there, helping…”
He trailed off as Lex got up from the sofa and slowly started to move closer to him. There was a purposeful look in Lex’s eyes that Clark hadn’t seen there for a while, and it dried up any words that Clark had planned on saying. Lex stopped less than a foot away, crossing his arms and looking intently at Clark.
“Is it so terrible, Clark? Being here, with me?”
Clark sighed. “No, of course not.” He shrugged and stuffed his hands in his pockets. “I just… wasn’t really planning on hiding in a bunker under your destroyed lab for a week.”
Lex smirked. “Well, no. That wasn’t really my plan for tonight, either. But, still…” Lex paused, and looked away for a moment, then looked back, squaring his shoulders. “You haven’t really been… there, lately. Except for when you need to point out my faults.”
Okay, that was probably true. He really couldn’t think of the last time that he’d talked to Lex for anything other than making sure Lex wasn’t doing something wrong. “Yeah, I know. You’re still… you’ll always be my friend, Lex. I don’t think that always comes through, but… I still believe it.”
“I’d like to believe that too, Clark, but you don’t always make it easy.”
Clark could feel his shoulders tensing. “Neither do you, Lex. You don’t always make it easy to be your friend.” He turned and walked a few steps away, needing a little distance. “It’s hard watching you lie to me, over and over.”
Lex sighed. “Clark, neither of us are going to win any awards for honesty, but…” He let his arms drop to his sides, and stepped back up to Clark. He raised one of his hands, and Clark almost flinched, except all Lex did was lightly touch Clark’s cheek.
He was almost surprised by the heat there, the warmth he could feel in the palm of Lex’s hand. He found himself unconsciously leaning into it. Clark swallowed, and took a deep breath. “I think… it’s harder sometimes, because I expect more from you,” he said. “Because I’ll always expect more from you.”
“Clark,” Lex said, softly, and leaned in. Clark held his breath as Lex’s lips touched his. They were softer than he’d ever imagined, such a contrast to how hard Lex seemed sometimes. Then Lex deepened the kiss, opening his mouth, and Clark was shocked into pulling back.
He closed his eyes to get a grip on himself. When he opened them back up, Lex’s face was blank and closed off. Clark didn’t want that, didn’t want to lose Lex’s heat.
“Oh, to hell with this,” Clark said, breathing out.
This time he initiated the kiss himself, pulling Lex’s shirt up and reaching under to touch soft, warm skin. He could feel himself growing impossibly hard, sucking in a sharp breath as his cock pressed against Lex’s hip. Then Lex was even closer, and he could feel Lex’s heat, his hardness, pressing against his own body. Lex reached his hands around Clark, yanking at his t-shirt, until Clark stepped back and let Lex tug it over his head and off. They stumbled across the room and through the door together, not wanting to break the kisses.
Clark paused for a moment to see that it was, indeed, a bedroom, with a ridiculously large bed. He laughed softly into Lex’s mouth, and Lex pulled back with a small smile. “What’s funny?”
“Seriously, Lex, a king size bed? In an underground bunker?”
Lex grinned. “Hey, you should be thankful for the luxury… just think how hard this would be to do with a small cot.”
With that, he grabbed Clark by his belt loops and yanked him down onto the bed, twisting them as they fell so that he landed on top. He got up on his knees and leaned over Clark, tugging at his belt, opening it. Clark helped him out, pulling open his jeans, then - as Lex worked his jeans down off his hips - kicking off his shoes. Lex yanked his pants all the way off, leaving Clark sprawled on the bed in just his boxers.
He spread one warm hand over Clark’s stomach. “Beautiful.”
Clark was almost stunned by the desire he could see in Lex’s face, all for him. It made something warm and intense spread across him, through his chest, heating his face.
“Lex,” he said, roughly. “You’re looking a little… over-dressed.”
“I’ll just take care of that,” Lex said, smirking. He stood up, quickly and efficiently undressing. Clark propped himself up on his elbows to watch. It was hotter then he ever could have imagined, seeing all that soft, pale skin revealed. He’d never seen Lex look so naked, in every way.
When Lex was done, he paused a moment, letting Clark look his fill. Then he leaned over Clark again, tugging at the waistband of his boxers. Clark hitched his hips up a bit, letting Lex pull them down and off. When he was fully naked, Lex slowly looked him up and down, his eyes hungry, before crawling back up Clark’s body, kissing his way up his chest.
He sucked at Clark’s neck, and Clark could feel himself flushing all over, from the hardness of his dick, all the way up to his face. He’d never felt so hot in his life. He pulled Lex tight to him, stroking his hands over his back, and down across his ass, his pale skin soft as silk. As he unconsciously spread his legs wider, Lex fell between then, slipping against Clark’s body as if he fit there, a puzzle piece Clark hadn’t realized was missing. He sucked in a breath when their cocks brushed together and pressed his feet to the bed, lifting his hips to get closer, to press tighter against Lex’s hardness.
Lex groaned at the contact, trailing sucking kisses up from Clark’s throat and across his jaw, reaching Clark’s bottom lip, pulling it into his mouth and nipping it gently between his teeth. Clark gasped, fisting his hands into the small of Lex’s back, pressing Lex tighter against him.
“God, Clark,” Lex said, roughly. “I never thought - God, I’d hoped… hoped you’d want this.” He thrust down against Clark, pushing him into the bed. “You’re just so… so…”
Clark groaned, deep in his chest. There was no way he was going to last much longer, not with Lex spread over him like this. It was like nothing he’d ever imagined.
“Lex…” he said, softly, breathing through the next thrust. He grasped at Lex’s hip, pulling him down tightly as he shook apart, squeezing his eyes shut as he came, heat spreading between their bodies.
Lex gasped, thrusting erratically again and again, before coming himself and collapsing against Clark. His chest was heaving, breath coming hot against Clark’s throat, weight pressing down on Clark before sliding just to the side. Clark just pulled him closer, holding tight before he could go far.
“Okay, wow,” Clark said finally, after he’d caught his breath.
Lex laughed, shaking against Clark’s side. “Well said.”
“Hey, I’m post-coital here. You only get so much.”
Propping up on an elbow, Lex smiled down at him. “Well, I guess I’ll take it,” he said. He leaned down, and they kissed, until Clark realized that he was starting to feel kind of sticky.
He broke it off. “Hey, is there a shower in this place?”
“The bunker belongs to me; what do you think?”
Clark laughed. “Right, of course. Well, I’m thinking we should use it, before we get glued together.”
“Come on, let’s get cleaned up,” Lex said, rolling off of Clark and pulling him up from the bed
As they walked across the room, Clark said, “You know, I don’t think I’ll mind being here for six days, if we get to do more of this.”
Lex stopped walking suddenly, turning around slowly. “Right. So, Clark, here’s the thing…”
That didn’t sound very good. Clark raised his eyebrows. “Yes?”
“We don’t actually have to stay down here that long. In fact, we can leave whenever we want.”
Clark frowned. “What? But the fallout…”
Lex sighed. “Okay, there wasn’t actually a nuclear explosion.”
This wasn’t going anyway Clark liked. “But, the lab exploded, didn’t it?”
“Yes, it just wasn’t nuclear. I just thought… if we could spend some time together, where you couldn’t leave…”
“You blew up your lab and faked a nuclear explosion so you could… spend time with me?”
“Yes?” Lex winced. “Okay, it sounds a little pathetic when you put it that way.”
Clark could feel amusement bubbling up inside him, and grinned. “Actually,” he said, laughing, “it’s kind of sweet.”
Lex turned around, staring daggers at Clark.
Clark just laughed again. “It is! You’re sweet.”
“Hmm,” Lex said, walking away and heading to the shower. Clark caught up and pulled him back around, kissing him.
“Although, I think it wouldn’t hurt to at least stay the night. In case there’s debris,” Lex said, reasonably.
“You know, I think you’re right. After all, I did come here to keep you safe,” Clark said, as he took Lex’s hand and pulled him into the shower.
