Sunday: Boy, I can barely keep my eyes open today... I spent most of yesterday outside (hootyraydums for fresh air!) working on my xeriscaping out front, and digging a planting hole out back. My "muskles" are tired and sore, and my eyes are swollen and heavy. I could ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz in a heartbeat. But alas, I must get dressed and dolled up to go see Momma.
Tuesday: OK, so here's what I've got planted so far out front. Next to the skinny pine, two red yuccas, one transplanted twisted-leaf yucca (from what's left of the Nelson's property off Chambers), one juniperus virginiana (also from the Nelson's property), blackfoot daisies (i MUST get more from Rainbow Gardens this weekend!), a small clump of bluebonnets (not in bloom yet, of course) i got at the Rodeo from the Master Gardeners in Comal County. There's a lot more space to fill, and I'm so excited about filling it with TEXAS NATIVES only.
I finally found a nursery whose inventory is 75% Texas natives. It's a little more than an hour away, but that's ok with me, since it's in the hill country (hwy. 16 southwest of Kerrville).
My one big concern about planting all these neat things is my SOIL. It's so sticky... which is fine for some of these things, as that is what they grow in here! But others need more drainage, such as the yuccas. There will be others, as well. So, what to do about that?
[Oh wow, speaking of Kerrville... the news at noon just showed video from there, and it is not just snowing... the air is thick with snow! wow!]
SO, anyway, I need to do some digging (ha ha) and find out if there's something I should do and can do about the soil where some of these plants are put.
