I'm sitting right now in my room at the Courtyard by Marriott in Lake Placid, NY. Doug, Abbey, Casey, and I are up here for family vacation and then we're going to drop Casey back off at school before going home. Benson is in Pennsylvania at the Pensic Wars, which he was really looking forward to, but is not having a good time because the weather is lousy and when he is not fighting there is not much to do. I'm sorry he's not here with us because I miss him and I think he would have had a better time.
So, why Lake Placid? Well, Doug really likes to fly fish and the girls wanted to fish too so we looked for a place where they could fish and I could sleep in a nice resort type hotel and shop/do tourist type stuff while they are fishing. Lake Placid seemed liked the place and so for it is living up to its hype. The fishing has been decent, weather fairly good, and today we took a charming 45 minute train ride to Saranac which just happened to be having a block party today with live music. Tomorrow we are going to the Olympic training complex and see the ski jump venue and the bobsled run and the skating rink, etc. We are also scheduled to take a boat ride around Lake Placid.
In general this is a nice place to visit. On the way we stopped at my sister and brother-in-law's new house outside Spencertown, NY. It is very lovely and will be a great place for them to retire to. I'm also enjoying the much cooler weather up here. It is a wonderful change from the stifling heat of the deep south.
