those teenage hopes who have tears in their eyes

Let's talk about Skins for a second. This show is seriously amazing-- there are only nine episodes and I just marathoned it on Youtube.com in the past three days. It's so clever and well-paced and wonderfully shot, so that even when they drop the ball in terms of storyline or dialogue, the beautiful editing and look of the show just distracts you. If more North American shows were like this, particularly teen-dramas, we'd be in a such a TERRIFIC place in TV. But as much as I'd like more shows like this, it could never survive on American networks, too much ACTUAL drinking, drugs, sex, and boykissing, instead of just dialogue about them.

Not to mention, I genuinely like all the characters, even Tony, who you're sort of meant to hate and Michelle, who's the sort of character I usually hate. It might be because each character's got an episode from their point of view or could be 'cause I've only had to suffer nine episodes of the characters so far. GOD, you guys, watch this show so I can talk to people about it!

In 2000, when both Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Wahlberg were B/borderline C-listers, they paired up to make The Yards. In it, they play rival cousins or something in a family with connections to the mafia and it fucking sucked. At least I think that was the plot-- I've seen it, but all I can remember is lol-ing at Charlize Theron's death--- oops!

Anyway, cut to this year and they've made We Own The Night together, about brothers (!!) something something guns mafia. SOUNDS GREAT! And MarkyM's got The Fighter coming out around 2009, where he and Matt Damon play brothers (!!) something something boxing. OKAY!

In other terrifically gay movies, we've got Jesse James where Casey Affleck is playing sort of the Tom Ripley to Brad Pitt's Dickie, if you know what I mean. SEE IT.

brothers, skins, teh yoob toob, mooovies, teevee
