Don't ask me when Dan/Blair went from being the pairing that I kind of thought about when reading the novels because it was SO IMPOSSIBLE that it would be awesome to being a legitimate ship for me. I said a long time ago that Dan and Blair are alike in much the same way that Nate and Serena are alike. They're the ones who are always throwing themselves into things too quickly, over-exerting their hearts. They hold their lives up to an impossible, fictionalized standard. And they both didn't get to go to Yale :(
Beyond that, I have a steadfast belief that Blair Waldorf can make anyone awesome and all of Dan's awesome moments last season have stemmed directly from interaction with her. Therefore, I posit that the two of them together would be FULL-SCALE ABSOLUTE AWESOME. Besides, wouldn't it be refreshing to see someone her with someone who won't screw her over?
This is definitely Dan POV, both because I sort of AM Dan Humphrey (ew I KNOW) and because I totally understand being in love with Blair Waldorf. And it sort of just happened that way, with all male vocalists aside from the two duets. I know "Rich Girls" shows up too often on Blair related mixes but that is because it is a kick-awesome song and because it suits her perfectly. The Oh! Colossus and Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson lyrics were transcribed by me since they were nowhere to be found online, so mistakes are likely. I wanted it to feel like a year at school-- starting off all giddy and new until you're worn out and freezing in winter and you finally make it out alive in the spring, feeling so much older and sort of in like with your best friend's ex-boyfriend. Apparently, to me that means dudes singing songs in tired voices.
So this is a mix about Dan and Blair maybe sort of becoming friends, if not something more, but it's also about that feeling you have in your first year of college/university, like maybe the rules have changed and now everything can be different, better. And how even though you want change, suddenly having to start all over again is kind of scary and you're drawn to things or people you couldn't have been bothered with before. You're comforted by them.
Or as I told
lovelysofar last night: "it's kind of a "we're in college now and maybe we're sort of friends and maybe i sort of like you OR NOT" mix"
And I'm actually kind of proud of the cover art for once, especially since I made it using Picnik. Enjoy!
