Eleven is an awkward age.
Everyone always told her that, but she never realized how true it was until George’s friends started coming over. High school boys. Boys who weren’t really interested in girls that were younger than them. Boys she had known since she was in elementary school, who some of them she knew like the back of her hand, and suddenly it was as though they were a foreign species.
Sort of.
Almost.
They were still the same guys. They still looked the same, they still acted the same. But for some reason there was something about one of them that just made her stomach do flip flops. She would never do anything about it, but she knew there were those moments where he would catch her staring at him, or see her before she darted around the corner and out of sight. It was embarrassing really. The thought of him looking at her made her blush. She didn’t like these feelings. She didn’t know where they were coming from, and she just wanted them to go away. He wasn’t that great a kid anyway. He could actually be a real jerk when he wanted to be. And he definitely didn’t look like Brad Pitt.
Mmm-Brad Pitt.
But for some reason, the feelings were still there. She decided that she just had to wait for them to go away, and that would be that. However, that didn’t make her life while they were still there any easier to deal with.
Anna was doing her homework in her room when George came in, leaning against her doorframe and watching her for a minute. It didn’t take long for her to realize he was there, and didn’t even look up. “Can I help you, George?”
“You have a crush on Matt, don’t you?”
Her eyes flickered up at him briefly, before going back to her work. “Why do you care?”
“He’s too old for you.”
“So is Brad Pitt, but you don’t see anyone trying talk me out of that one,” she smirked, and he rolled his eyes.
“Yes, well, aside from defying the laws of time and space, you and Brad Pitt is never going to happen. You and Matt actually night.”
“I thought you were trying to talk me out of it, not the other way around.”
“I am-” George closed his eyes and groaned. “I don’t even know why we’re having this conversation.”
“Me either,” she sighed, “Cuz I’m not going to do anything about it, George. I just-want it to go away.”
“Good,” George nodded. “Cuz if he hurt you, I’d have to kill him.”
“Aww, Georgie-I didn’t know you cared.”
He smirked at her. “Don’t get too used to it.” He turned and started to walk away, when she spoke up again.
“Well, you could always think of it this way,” she said, and he turned to face her, a questioning look on his face. “At least it’s some guy you know instead of some guy you’ve never heard of before.”
“Surprisingly, Anna,” he said, giving her a smirk. “That doesn’t make me feel any better.”

“You have a crush on Matt, don’t you?”

“Aww, Georgie-I didn’t know you cared.”
He smirked at her. “Don’t get too used to it.” He turned and started to walk away, when she spoke up again.
“Well, you could always think of it this way,” she said, and he turned to face her, a questioning look on his face. “At least it’s some guy you know instead of some guy you’ve never heard of before.”
“Surprisingly, Anna,” he said, giving her a smirk. “That doesn’t make me feel any better.”
