Christian Exodus is planning on taking over South Carolina politically, rewriting the state constitution to be more in line with what God intended, and - if that's not supported at the federal level - secede from the union. No, really. Remember when Jesusland was a joke?

I haven't quite decided whether or not I think this is a good idea.

On the one hand, this is exactly the sort of group that I don't want to see in power anywhere. While I certainly agree with them on some of the basics ("We hold that all powers not specifically delegated to the Federal Government in the Constitution belong to the States or the People respectively," "People of all faiths must have the same rights and freedoms guaranteed to them under law"), those basics quickly spin out into some kind of Bible-induced stupor that negates the whole thing: "For example, some constitutional guarantees ought to include the protection of human life at conception, the Ten Commandments as the foundation of law, the prohibition of any redefinition of marriage..."; "Moreover, the state's authority is subservient to the Creator's authority, and when in conflict, government must adjust its position to conform to God's natural law"; "The under girding principle in a representative form of government is that majority rules. It then becomes the responsibility of the minority to relocate..."; etc. ad nauseum. These people represent the antithesis of what I consider Liberty to be, and if I want to see more Liberty in the world, I should consider them enemies and act accordingly.

On the other hand, I'm not all that attached to South Carolina personally, and losing SC might be a small price to pay to get these zealots out of my country (and presumably out of my government as well). And if I believe in Liberty, I suppose I'm OK with them locking themselves up in the mountains somewhere to play their domination/damnation games with each other.

I wonder if they could be convinced that South Carolina isn't far enough away? I mean, if they're moving anyway, how about something roughly the same size, like Portugal or Austria? Maybe they'd like to bring God's government to the United Arab Emirates? Or Ireland? Hey - I hear Iraq's looking for a new religious government anyway, how about they move there?
