A Monday in Detroit

Today I went to Detroit with my Dad to get groceries and other items from several warehouses. Quite a tiring ordeal that I would not enjoy on a weekly basis I can assure you. However, getting groceries was not MY main goal this monday. No, I was supposed to apply for Naturalization today. You know, become a citizen, pledge allegiance, all that jazz. Well, I never really wanted to, my parents sort of forced me because an Indian passport amongst a family of American passports look mighty suspicious when going through customs. Anyways, it's kind of discouraging when you drive 2 hours to the INS office and find out that they changed the rules a bit. We had all the proper forms filled out, all of our passports, my greencard, birth ceritficate, driver's license and whatnot. Well, it's too bad they forgot to mention the bit about getting an appointment first. Heh, we never had to do THAT before. Well, at least I don't have to become a citizen anymore. I like the U.S. and all, but I like India a lot more. Not just because you don't *have* to have a license to drive, you can hitch a ride on a train without buying a ticket, find 300 mL. bottles of coke/pepsi at nearly every store on the road, get pirated movies and games at dirt cheap prices or the great beaches but because of the fact that I was born there. Other people may not feel the same kind of loyalty towards the country they were born in, but I sure do. And becoming a citizen here and having to take that Oath of Allegiance which states that I must denounce my allegiance to India is just something I can't stand to do. Well, I don't care much as long as I get dual citizenship (which is annoying to get in my opinion).

Good Monday, hope for some more.
