[CONTINUED FROM HERE]

[there's a very prompt knock at Jason's door]

[And there's a Jason answering the door. Mindy's out, but that's not stopping him from peering suspiciously at Katsura before inviting him in.]

You came.

[Why yes, he's surprised.]

[matter of factly in return]

Of course. You asked me to.

[frowns a bit, (mostly) certain he hadn't misinterpreted]

[he gives him a once-over as he comes through the door, looking for visible signs and symptoms of sickness]

[That actually wasn't innuendo. Congrats, Zura. You've reached serious Jason.]

[Serious Jason who doesn't look sick except for a weird out-of-it expression and some dark circles under his eyes.]

I'll get my jacket and we'll go, I guess.

Aa.

[lingers uncertainly sort of just beyond reach, like he expects the other man to keel over at any moment]

When we get back -- Fuck, this is gonna sound weird... When we get back, could you search my room? I don't think I have anything left, but I don't know.

[Shrugs on his jacket and heads for the door, not really waiting for a reply. If Zura says yes, he'll feel like a needy addict, and if Zura says no, well then he'll just feel even more pathetic. This sucks.]

[the samurai follows him back out into the hallway, giving a soft grunt of assent only]

[his voice is a low murmur, even-tempered as reading off a grocery list]

What type of drug do you suspect it was, and what led you to the conclusion you had taken it?

[Well, he's not stumbling down the hallway, which is probably a good sign. Actually, now that he's moving and in decent lighting, he feels pretty lucid. More so than he had in a tiny dark room crammed full of firearms and hello kitty stuff, anyway.]

Last thing I remember having around before I stopped dealing was a few grams of cocaine. Not enough to kill me, but definitely enough for this. Funny thing is, when I'm really on a high, I usually go out and look for a fight. Right now I just kind of want to crawl into an airlock and die. Maybe if I float out into space eternity, or whatever, won't be able to bring me back.

[dubiously, and without much conviction]

Perhaps it's food poisoning... that sounds similar to when a comrade of mine ate bad clams...

[the vigilante sounds depressed - what happened, over Christmas? a disagreement with his 'family'? was he using again? were things with Mindy becoming stressed? were there inner demons he didn't know about - perhaps visions of 'Talia,' again?]

[into the lift they go, Zura's gears turning at high speed, and without much progress being made]

[Jay reaches for the safety rail when the lift lurches into motion. It doesn't do much for his stomach, but for some reason holding onto something does make him feel better.]

Two day old Chinese probably isn't healthy.

[He's more than happy to pretend it's a bad case of food poisoning for the moment. Withdrawals suck, and aren't pretty for anyone involved. He'll hate himself just a little bit more if that's what he's making Mindy come home to.]

[another soft grunt, and Zura's eye lingers on the hand Jay has on the railing]

[when the door opens, he's much closer beside the other man, offering a subtle shoulder to lean on if need be]

[There isn't really need for it. By the time the doors open, Jason's recovered enough to carry himself and make it look nonchalant even if it's not really.]

Thanks.

[All the same, he's grateful Zura isn't making a big deal about this.]

So how're things?

[Because awkward small talk can only improve the remaining jaunt through the ship.]

[Zura can recognise a distraction tactic, and he allows it easily]

[as always, immune to Jason's awkward]

They started out poorly, but have become better. I had to burn a toady grandfather's d*ck on a barbecue grill, and I am now in financial debt because of the ensuing property damage.

[continues, without pause, as he also half-steers them along a corridor that is less crowded and easier to walk down]

But then, a person very dear to me recently woke out of a coma. So, the year is starting better than it has ended. -- Ah, it was, anyway. This is not a very good situation, to be honest.

Oh yeah? Who's that?

[Ignoring the bit about this, and how much it sucks. He's aware, thanks.]

Naruto-kun.

[he says it fondly, although the following is one long complaint]
