Oh! How I agree with everything in your review and you, tanoshi_ame. I was so enraged at Merlin's ineptitude, I completely ignored his responsibilities to Aithusa. You are absolutely right in saying Merlin has focused down to one thing only: Arthur. To his own destruction. He really is like Gwen used to be. Nothing if not attached to Arthur. That is such a shame.

I do like, however, how Colin is playing Merlin. I like that he's angry. I like that he's tired and seemingly disgusted with Arthur in many ways. I like the feel that he is at the end of his rope. I want him to snap. I want dark!Merlin. I said a long time ago that Merlin the character has long since lost his sympathy vote from me. It no longer matters to him who is sacrificed, as long as Arthur is safe. It hasn't matter for a long time. That is a far cry from the Merlin who told his mother that, if it means saving lives, it's worth the risk of Arthur finding out his secret. How does Merlin think magic/the Old religion will return if he doesn't step up?

I also remember how I felt when Merlin actually went through with killing Morgana. That was a stellar moment. It showed us the depth of Merlin's commitment to his destiny, but also showed us his terror and anguish in having this destiny. Where is that man? I don't think he's completely one-noted yet, but he's fast approaching it.

I also like how Bradley is playing Arthur. So far, IMO, the M/A is better. In this case, I do believe the writer's have created a more mature feel to them. Or maybe it's just how B/C are characterizing the drivel that is the writing. IDK, but so far, I like it.

Regarding Mordred's magic: Did Arthur not remember who Mordred is? Arthur was reminded he saved Mordred. So, if he knows WHO Mordred is, does Arthur not remember he has magic? Or did, once again, that conversation never happen because Arthur is too dense to question? (Or we're to just overlook that HUGE FACT.) Does it mean even with magic, if one saves the King and he's a 'warrior', he can become a Knight? Merlin says to Mordred that if Arthur knew he had magic, things would be different. So, then Arthur really doesn't know? OMG, how is that friggin' possible! Argh, these endless (it seems) dropped storylines that are actually good. Like with Ygraine, and Arthur being told he's born of magic. I still am baffled how such a wonderful and original storyline (IMO) could be dropped and forgotten. I always thought, on so many levels, that was huge and would be great to see play out. But, I digress...

I thought ep1 was really good and was expecting ep2 to be at least as good. I feel they failed miserably. It is very early, though. Oh, and seriously, how many friggin' times can we give a crap about Morgana's fate when she wanders off somewhere?
