[Alias] Desperate Measures

"I can't sanction her killing him with her hands." alias. sydney, jack, kendall. 385 words. pg-13.

Sydney is actually starting to miss the warehouse she used to meet Vaughn in- pacing back and forth in the rotunda is awkward, because there's too much space. Pacing requires small, enclosed spaces that make one think of cages and restless animals in zoos. Plus, people who pace in wide, open spaces just look kind of crazy.

She's starting to wonder if maybe she is crazy.

"There's no way I can keep this up," she finally announces, pivoting as she reaches the edge of her designated pacing zone, and starting back. Kendall keeps rubbing his forehead, Vaughn looks like he's going to cough up a hairball any moment, and her father's expression is the same as it always is.

"May I remind you, Agent Bristow, that this isn't up for debate?" Kendall's tone has the exasperated quality of someone who is getting really, really tired of saying something he's said too many times before.

Kendall's exasperation raises Sydney's frustration levels, because how dare he act like she's putting him out, when he's just sitting on his ass, while she continues to play nice with a terrorist working for the other terrorist group she's supposed to be picking apart. "We should have brought him in before now. There are ways we could account for his absence at SD-6. If I have to be his doting wife on a mission again or put up with his flirting, I'm going to kill him with my hands. Try explaining that to Sloane."

"Sark's intelligent," Jack points out, more to keep Sydney from killing Kendall with her hands than anything else. "It's not unreasonable that if Sydney is forced to work with him too often, he'll uncover the truth and report it back to Sloane."

"I can't sanction her killing him with her hands," Kendall holds up his own hands in a defensive maneuver, although it's halfhearted, like he's so tired of this conversation that falling back on the tried and true method of being a jackass is the only reasonable option. Jack's expression shifts from neutral to, if she kicks you, I'm going to look the other way, and doesn't say another word.

Sydney, however, just glowers. "One last time. And then we figure something out. I'm not having all my work undone by the choir boy from hell."
