I just heard on the radio a commercial to be a mason!?  There advertising now?

What?! No way! I thought the only way the Freemasons recruited was you had to find a member and ask. You can't actively recruit or solicit. Even in families, if your kid never asks about it, you can't bring it up. I have Freemasons in the family tree, and that was always my impression.

I'm now incredible curious and want to hear this commercial. They can't have changed their recruiting policies... can they? Maybe they're just not getting enough new members....

i wasnt paying full attention but at 5:30am on standard boston rock station they did it. Said something like do you have the right strengths or something and then said that october 20somethin all the lodges in the state would be open for outsiders to come talk to them and then advertised some website to learn more. creepy

They aren't actively soliciting new members, but they have been trying to "open up to the public to clear some misperceptions..."

of course, if someone approaches a member and expresses interest at one of these open houses....
