I was simply sitting here at my computer searching through my not so vast music collection when I put on the song "Tiny Dancer", originally performed by Elton John, but here done up by Tim McGraw, and it got me to thinking. I started to recollect the effect that song had in the movie Almost Famous, that song was the one moment that people who have seen the movie remember the most vividly. I think it was because we all could relate to that kind of an experience, we all have a song or two in our lives that make us remember a certain time in our lives after hearing it. Those guys in the movie for you who haven't seen this great movie were in a rock band on the verge of imploding, and that song brought them together even if it was only for a few moments as they united once again in the tour bus and sang like old buddies that never fought. Along the same lines Kenny Chesney recent hit song "I go Back" deals with this very subject, as he sings about various songs and how they reconnect the pieces of his life upon being heard. Music is powerful and I have to admit that I remember almost all the songs I associated with the girls i've had crushes on, from "My girl" by the temptations, to "When I see you smile" by Firehouse I can still recall little bits of information about the girls, even if they were only seven or eight years old, they still have stuck to me. Perhaps I am a softy but it still is nice to reconnect to my foolish childhood crushes especially now that I am in contact with "My Girl" once again.
It isn't just crushes that connect me to past memories, songs such as Sublime's "Garden Grove" reminds me of the back of a five ton truck full of cold tired soldiers singing along as we head back to the barracks for a well needed meal shower and sleep. and of course I have a "Wayne's world" moment of my own with my car full of friends singing along to "Bohemian Rhapsody" as we cruise the city of Derby.
I want to know what songs reconnect you to your past, and seeing as how I only have one person connected to my page as a friend please help me get stronger readership
