My favorite thing about having this journal is that I can go back and read about what my kids were doing at X age. So I'm going to keep up the kid updates.
Julian is in public school this year, loving 1st grade. I feel much better about it than our short attempt at kindergarten last year. He walks to and from school and has made a lot of friends, both boys and girls. His best bud at school is a boy named Jack. He's playing flag football and seems pretty good at it. We throw the ball around in the backyard when it's nice out. We have almost no conflicts now that we stopped homeschooling, he is so sweet and mellow and helps out around the house a lot. His reading and writing are really improving in school. I don't think he's learning anything in math, but I don't really mind since he's already so ahead in that subject and needs to focus on the reading. He is reading books for fun now! He's so tall and lanky and his hair is long now, he looks really big to me. Here's a picture of his class:

His reading is pretty good now, he can do easy readers about as well as Julian. He doesn't often choose to read for fun, but he will read over Julian's shoulder (which annoys J to no end). He's getting the hang of addition and subtraction, can read a digital clock, and is otherwise catching up in math. He can ride his bike for a mile or more now, and can finally swim! He can write now and is really into chatting on facebook and texting me with Rob's blackberry (like "I luv you mom"). He is listening to Harriet the Spy on cd and wants to write down peoples' secrets and be a spy.
Both kids are currently obsessed with the Beatles, having passed through their Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, and Johnny Cash phases. Not that any of those are really over but the Beatles are on the top of their list right now. They like Yellow Submarine in particular.
Our new place is very cozy and cute, and within walking distance of everything-- both kids' schools, UofM, my office, the farmer's market, the library, the food co-op, restaurants, movie theaters, etc. etc.
I'm still considering med school. There's a new pre-med post-bac program at Louisville. We're undecided about moving back next year, it all depends on the kids' school applications (we're trying to get Luka into Collegiate for K and Julian into Brown for 2nd). The schools here are so nice and it is so safe and family-friendly... but cold, and we might never have another chance to live in Louisville. I'm trying to go with the flow.
