Mercury Dance Ensemble practice continues. We usually have access to the upstairs hall which is something like 50 x 100 feet, a very nice (humongous, actually, 200 people could dance in there) size. Even when they have tables set up for a function, we just have to move a few at the back to get a 50 foot square of open space to dance in.
We have re-learned the Bohemian National Polka, are maybe 30% through our Viennese Waltz, and 10% through the Castle Walk. Tonight we started on the Washington Post March, one of our simpler (but faster) dances and so much fun! It is essentially a fast vintage two-step (it's like a polka, but it moves too fast to hop, so it's done flat-footed). There is a 64-measure gallop sequence in it, and doing that is like being one of those little kids who get all buzzed from running around as fast as they can. And doing it at performance level in a room that size, it feels like we go twice as fast as we would doing it for social dancing.
