Letter 6...

My Dear Wormwood,

The battle continues my dear nephew. Everyday is like a new a fight, and I am pleased with your belligerent attacks on the enemy. Your success seems to be growing.

Its amazing how easy it is to make these humans doubt. One day they will be so sure of something that no matter what anyone says that cant be persuaded to believe anything else. The next day comes along though and some minute detail or occurrence totally changes their perspective. People are wishy-washy and luckily that always seems to work for our benefit.

In your case specifically I find this to be something you can use to your advantage. You know that the past month or so, your assigned human has felt a strong burden to confront a situation, a friend and a brother. But during this whole time, you have been feeding him lies and fears and keeping him from speaking up. This is wonderful for us! Keep sending him irrational thoughts. Feed his fears until you destroy him.

You will recall in my last letter that I mentioned the battle of the heart. You are winning! We here at home could not be happier. Your lies are effecting him in so many ways. He doubts who he is, he doubts where his life is going. Its great! Your influence caused him to build up such contentment and such assurance in where he was going that when the fall came he fell hard. Oh how many souls have won by throwing kinks in human relationships? I can’t count them anymore.

Just remember, while we throw kinks into these relationships we are still far from destroying them. Humans can easily overcome them, especially with the help of the enemy. Along with the kinks, you must continue to play with their emotions and remove their desires to fix the kinks. For some reason your human is not so willing to give up on relationships. However we know he is weak. I think you are playing him correctly.

Keep pressing on Wormwood.

Your Affectionate Uncle,
--Screwtape
