Otherside
This is a new series by first time (i believe) writer Jason Aaron about two 19 year old farmboys, one from America and one from Vietnam who get drafted in the war sometime around '68 i think. So far it's been pretty interesting, playing up the idealism of the Vietnamese side and the fear and don't-give-a-shit attitude of the American side. Cameron Stweart's artwork is not always perfect, but he's good in creating this kind of psychological horror enviornment Aaron is going for. Definatly gonna read this whole series as it comes out.
Civil War
This series has been kicking some major ass recently. It's basically a political parable where it's declared that superheroes have to register with the government after a big tragety. Some are all for it (notably Iron Man, Spiderman) and work to hunt down those against it (lead by Captain America). Besides and interesting concept, Mark Miller's writing has been really sharp, really good dialog and rousing fights. And making it better is artist Steve McNiven.
Astonishing X-Men
This series just keeps being great. I never really paid much attention to Buffy, Firefly, or whatever, but judging from this book, Joss Whedon knows what he's doing. Probably some of the best dialog ever in X-Men. John Cassidy's artwork is always just a little off realistic and always stunning. I don't know how long they can sustain it, but I hope they keep this pace up..
