Too much pain in movies...
On cable, I watched "Shut Up and Sing"...
This was the documentary about the Dixie Chicks... and their rise to fame up until the 2003 comment about being ashamed George W. Bush is from Texas... and the madness of insane Bush-zombies against them.
People having Nazi-like CD-destroying parties... death threats sent to the singers... their music banned from radio stations...
A whole McCarthy-esque hatred from a bunch of people who simply have no interest in what was actually going on... and just swallowed the Bush-bullshit like far too much of the nation.
I wonder what those crazy fucks think now... you know... 5 years later as they finally figure out what the rest of us knew even back then...
or are they part of the same 18% of Americans who still sit there thinking Bush is doing a great job... you know... while wallowing in their own feces.
Anyway... if that didn't just charge up my standard Republican-hating ire...
I then got to watch the HBO film "Recount"
This movie just drove me insane! It was a wonderful depiction of all the things I already knew back in the day. It went over all the dirty tactics of the Republican party used to steal Florida and the presidency away from Al Gore and away from America. It talked about the 20,000 people denied their right to vote because of having the same name as felons. It went over all the illegal votes that came in from military posts.
It made clear why there was a problem with the Florida Ballots (and how a 'hanging chad' could get shifted back into place by the machine doing the counting, thus making the machine ignore the vote) and it explained the many other errors that were reduced to jokes rather than being examined with the serious concern they should have been.
It showed the rabid throngs of Republican voters attacking and harassing and sending death threats to the people who were working hard to do the recount. (And they had the NERVE to call the workers doing the recount as "Cheaters")
I know that the Republicans will call this movie propaganda... but I remember these reports. I've complained about this since 2000 and will continue to talk about this bleak spot in our history...
BECAUSE IT WAS THIS ILLEGAL ACTION THAT PUT BUSH UNDESERVEDLY INTO THE POSITION OF PRESIDENT WHICH HE NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN...
and thanks to that, we lost our surplus and inherited a 9 Trillion dollar debt
and that we were thrust into an unjustified war that has cost us the lives of over 4000 of our US troops (and the injuries of thousands and thousands more)
and has ruined our standing in the world
and has ruined our educational system
and has resulted in the failure to respond to such disasters as what happened in New Orleans
and has.... well fuck... you know all the damage Bush has done in his disastrous 8 years of incompetence and thick-headed stupidity.
And while it is nice to see that a fair amount of the nation is FINALLY getting a clue of just HOW FUCKED over we've all become due to the actions of the Republican party who have put themselves far above the nation...
