Cold...

He yawned and raised a weak hand to shield his eyes from the sun. It poured in through the window.

Why is it so fucking cold?

He sat up, swinging his legs over the side of his bed. He smiled sadly to himself.

“I’ve got myself in a right mess, haven’t I?” he chuckled lightly.

Reita pushed himself slowly off the bed. He stretched out as he walked across his bedroom. Pausing momentarily, he stared at his reflection in the mirror. He snorted. It seemed that he hadn’t just got himself into a mess, but that he was looking like a mess as well. Sighing, he reluctantly dragged himself into the bathroom. The bassist removed his boxers and slipped into the shower, turning the hot water on and letting it run over his body. For a moment he just stood under the water, his eyes closed and his mind empty.

Reita was just about to reach for the soap when there was a frantic knocking at the door.

Who the fuck is that?

Frowning, he turned off the water and wrapped a towel round his waist, tying it firmly. He didn’t want anything to happen like last time he opened the door straight from the shower. He still couldn’t forget the look on the delivery girl’s face. He blushed slightly at the thought and checked his towel twice before leaving the bathroom.

More knocking. Reita groaned loudly and was about to shout through the door for whoever it was to go away unless it was important.

But then he heard the voice.

“...Rei-chan... Rei-chan... please. I know you’re in. I... We need to talk... Please.”

The bassist stopped, one hand on the door knob and the other on the lock. He was moments away from encountering his nightmare.

And worst of all, he was dripping wet.

Swallowing hard, he opened the door. Reita didn’t dare to look up. He knew who it was but he didn’t exactly want that person to be there in front of him.

“Ah, Rei-chan... I’m sorry.”

Reita lifted his head to look at Ruki. He narrowly avoided eye contact, as Ruki swiftly dropped his gaze when he noticed Reita’s movements. The vocalist didn’t know where to look. Looking into the bassist’s eyes only made him cringe, but looking down he could only focus on the towel. It was his towel. He’d left it at Reita’s a few weeks ago.

“Do... do you want to come in or something?” Reita asked awkwardly, motioning with one hand the lavish apartment behind him.

Ruki nodded, suddenly very self-conscious. He walked in, every step slow and painful for the vocalist. He felt very out of place. Reita’s apartment had always been a place of comfort for him, but now it felt like a warzone.

The bassist motioned to the towel. “Can this wait a few minutes?”

Ruki nodded again. He was here to talk, but he couldn’t even look at Reita, let alone open his mouth to say anything. He heard Reita shuffle hastily out of the room and he heard him curse several times as he threw clothes about his room. The vocalist walked over to the couch and sat himself down, facing towards the window. The sun shone in, but everything still felt so cold in the apartment. A few moments later, Reita returned in trousers and an unbuttoned shirt, still holding the towel. He held it out towards Ruki.

“Sorry, I just realised it was yours.”

Ruki shook his head. “Keep it,” he mumbled, still staring out the window.

Reita drew back. He felt his cheeks redden slightly and dropped the towel over the back of a chair. He walked over and sat at the other end of the 3-seat couch, buttoning up his shirt as he did so.

“You said...” Reita began, but all words lost him as Ruki suddenly turned and reached out.

The vocalist grasped the other man’s hand with both of his and pulled it towards him. Reita shuffled up, feeling slightly uncomfortable. The grasp was firm. Reita wasn’t going to wriggle out of this conversation any time soon.

“Reita... we need to make this better...” Ruki began, barely audible. “We need to sort things out... It’s driving me crazy.”

Reita nodded slowly. Of course he wanted to makes things better too. He wanted everything back to normal. He wanted to wake up with Ruki curled against him. He wanted to feel Ruki’s soft lips against his own. Reita raised his free hand and placed is gently atop Ruki’s. The vocalist was shaking, but he wasn’t the only one. The bassist squeezed the other man’s hands gently.

“Reita... what do we do?”

“I don’t know,” he mumbled back, staring at their hands.

“We can’t just leave it all as it is... and hope it’ll get better.”

“I know.”

“Christ, Reita. Make some suggestions or something! I feel like I’m talking to myself.”

Ruki went to pull away, but Reita’s grip was too strong. The vocalist looked into the other man’s face. So beautiful... He stared at the perfect features of the other man; the perfect features tainted by stress and confusion. Reita never once returned the gaze. Instead, he remained staring at their hands piled together in a mess as intense as their love life.

“I’m sorry,” Ruki finally mumbled.

“Don’t be,” whispered Reita.

“No seriously... I’m sorry. For everything. It’s all just a big... big... mess.”

The vocalist sighed and lowered his head. He placed a single kiss upon the bassist’s hand. His head remained low over their hands, his breath ghosting over their skin. Reita stared down at the back of Ruki’s head. He loved this man. He loved him.

“Ruki,” he whispered.

The vocalist lifted his head slightly. His eyes glided up towards Reita.

“Ruki, we’ll make it all okay. I... I don’t know how...”

“But we’ll do it,” Ruki finished for him and smiled softly.

The two exchanged a small moment between them. It was the first they’d had in weeks now. Ruki sighed and kissed the bassist’s hand again before standing up and twirling about. Reita snorted. The vocalist looked rather lost for some reason.

“Well... you know... I uh... better go,” Ruki mumbled, blushing.

Reita nodded solemnly. He stood up. He rested a hand on Ruki’s back, rubbing his fingers over the soft material of the other man’s t-shirt.

“I love you, Reita,” Ruki whispered, not making eye-contact. “And I never stopped loving you... I... I shouldn’t have said some of the things I did... I still love you...”

Reita smiled, shuffling closer to the vocalist. “And I still love you, despite everything I’ve done. Honestly... I wouldn’t trade you in for the world.”

Ruki chuckled slightly. “I should hope not.”

He walked over to the door. He turned and, with a soft smile on his face, said a quick “see you later” and left. Reita stood staring long after the door had been closed. He sighed and threw himself down on the couch again.

“Ah...” he mumbled. “Maybe I should finish my shower...”

He snorted and rolled onto his back, staring at the ceiling.

Later... Maybe later...
