Long Time, No Post

Jesus, I just saw that my last post was very early January. I can remember posting two, three times a day. I miss those days. In my defense, I spend 10 hours a week driving to and from work.....I could post a lot in 10 hours. Anyway...in the inrterest of getting back into the swing of things, here are a few brief updates.......

Had my fourth gig. March 14th at The Pizza Pub in the beautiful South of Philly. It went as well as could be expected, given the events that took place earlier in the day. In the morning and early afternoon I was sent to a meeting for the garden center department that I oversee. It was in an unheated warehouse, and they served donuts and coffee. They had big insulated boxes of coffee. Boxes and boxes of the stuff. Not being a fan of the cold, I hald several cups over the course of the three and a half hour meeting. I arrived home after the meeting, and began preparing for the gig. All the sound equipment was by the door, I had my prompts written off on 3X5 cards, and I was pacing back and forth memorizing my material. About two or three hours before I was to take the stage (which was actually just a mic stand in the corner of a bar) I decided to let the dogs out. They were no sooner out back than I heard six gunshots in rapi succession, followed by six more. Eight fuckin' months in The City and the first 12 gunshots I hear come sandwiched between a gallon of high test coffee and my first standup gig in Philly. Great. Just great. I was as nervous the fourth time as I was the first. Next time, no coffee. And no guns.

We got another dog. An 11 year old rescue from the SPCA in Perkiomenville. They described him as a full blooded Rat Terrier, but I disagree. He's way to big to be all Rattie, but whatever. Story goes, he lived with the same family from when he was a puppy up until just recently. His "family" surrendered him because he didn't like kids. I cry shenanigans. This dog gets a little scrappy with Woody if there's a chewy involved, but he's never shown any aggression towards children (and South Philly is rife with kids). I'm thinking somebody's asshole kid pulled on his leg or ear and bought him/herself some teeth in the process. Anyway, their loss is our gain. His name at the shelter was Chester, but that needed changed....new life, new name. So in keeping with the whole "House of 1,000 Corpses" theme (Otis and Baby were both named after characters from the film) we decided to go with Hugo...our latest rescue is the oldest dog in the house, and Hugo (Grampa Hugo) was the oldest guy in the movie.....except maybe for Dr. Satan.

We got Netflix. Not much else to say about that. It's weird, now that we have that resource at our disposal, I have watched some of the best and worst movies of my life.

Well, plenty more to come, but I have to work tomorrow. I'll be back.
