I want to start off by mentioning how much I truly appreciate my friends and the support system I have. With Gia, my daughter Tori, Kevin, Poodle, Kurt, Kodiak and Kitty who come to as many games as they can to root for me and support me it's like having my own cheering section and it's great. They guys on my team always notice how many people come to watch me play and it makes me feel good and makes me play harder. My wife has been to every game I've played to support me and cheer me on. Even the super late night games she's there. But it all didn't really come into focus until last night.

Last 5 minutes of the game while the other team was in our zone a pass came out to the guy I was covering, he wound up for a shot and I dropped down to block it and I did, just didn't mean to block it with my face. My first thought after wanting my ears to stop ringing was how bad I was bleeding, I knew the puck busted me open, just didn't know how bad. Considering I was sliding across the ice at the time it didn't take much to see the trail of blood I was leaving and it pooled up pretty quick when I came to a stop. As I rolled onto my side towards the bench, who did I see standing there but my wife. Worried sick I wasn't unconcious or dead. Later Quail mentions that she knew it was bad when both teams stopped to check on me.

So the guys pick me up and get me off the ice and I'm still seeing stars right now, but Kodiak was there to take me off the ice and look at the wound. At first I was just going to ask him to stitch me up so I could finish the game but my jaw felt like it was dislocated. When I mentioned it to Kodiak he said it looked like I broke it. So getting stitched and back on the ice was pretty much out of the question. So off to the hospital I go.

So I get to the hospital and I get in fairly quickly which suprised me. Turns out that Chargers games keep people out of hospitals so there was no one else to see. So when I get admitted the doctor pokes around at my jaw and declares it's not dislocated, just a bit out of place but that I'm going to need x-rays to be sure it's not broken. Oh, and I'll have to shave off the goatee so he can stitch it up. Not sure exactly when it was but at some point while I'm on the gurney Quail lets me know that Kevin, Poodle and Kurt were in the waiting room waiting for me. I asked Kodiak and Kitty to go home and that I'd message them when I got out. We had asked everyone else to go ahead and go home but Kevin stuck around so we got him in the ER with me to hang out. It was pretty much at this point while waiting for the doctor that I realize how appreciative I am to have these people in my life.

It reminded me of 10 years ago when my girlfriend at the time and I were dating and I was playing roller hockey, she would never go to a game, the one time she went she brought a book to read. One time she was at home and I took a hard hit that dislocated my shoulder. My brother, who I was carpooling with took me home and then just before I crawled into bed came back and decided I was going to the hospital. So off to the hospital we go. Me, my brother and his wife. My girlfriend was upset with me for waking her up. Didn't seem to concerned about the fact I was hurt, and in fact stayed home while my brother took me to the ER.

But my wife refuses to miss a game. And it always makes me feel good to have a cheering section in the stands, but to have not only my wife but all my friends at the hospital worried about me really means something to me.

So I have 8 stitches in my chin and my jaw is really sore. My goatee is gone which will make my mom happy, but she will not be happy with the reason it's gone.

BTW did I mention I love this game?
