As
thassalia commented last week, it's getting harder and harder to find early stories to recommend. There are stories that I fondly remember, yet when I go back a re-read, now years later, they aren't as well written as I remember.
That said, I still have two stories to recommend.
The first story I want to recommend is
This Side of Paradise by Karolyn Gray. It was posted to Redbeard's site in June 2000. This story is about John dealing with the after effects of the Aurora chair and Aeryn recuperating from the paraphoral nerve transplant. The story is more about John and Stark though. And because, at this point in the show, no explanation has been given to why Stark left, the author creates a plausible reason. I like the characterizations. I do have one "complaint" - I hate the ending - it's pure sap, and there was good reason why the author snipped a section that is posted at the end. To me, the story would have ended best at the final ***** break.
No Regrets by Orchidcactus was written in response to a challenge on the SFC BB. It is post Fractures, so spoiler warning there. This John finds some semblance of peace - and if I said anything more, I'd give away too much. Orchid's website is no longer being updated, and I found this on her old site thanks to
oneeyethedrd. Her other fiction is located there as well. To feed the author, she can be found at morgansmom98@yahoo.com. She doesn't have Internet access at home, so it may take her awhile to respond.
