It had stalked the boy. Easy enough to find one white-haired human child. Especially with what it knew. The Other hadn't liked that. But he didn't have a choice. He'd been trapped. And it was free to do as it pleased.

Which entailed finding these people, the ones he cared for. The child, the little family, a few other scattered children, the twin... the dark-haired man... But none of them had announced a location. Not yet anyway.

So it went to the library, following the small form with the barely audible clack of too-long talons on the floor.

It was dark in the library, and starting to get a little spooky, especially seeing those wide, frightened eyes - his own wide, frightened eyes - staring at him whenever he looked up to see a mirror.

"Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all," he murmured to himself, shivering a little. It felt like there were eyes on him, watching him, but he was pretty sure it was just another reflection. "Nobody's here, so..." Maybe I'll just go back to my room...

"Am I a nobody?"

Its voice was turian--dual toned, slightly rough--but not the turian those at the asylum had come to know. It was deeper, more ragged. And Garrus' eyes had never glowed that electric blue before.

It was close now, advancing casually, every movement that of a lean, hungry predator.

Startled, Allen spun around to face the direction of the voice. His eyes widened slightly, then narrowed again, and when he spoke his own voice was calm even as his nearby reflection cowered in fear.

"Garrus' reflection. What do you want?" Desperately he wished for his Innocence, that familiar cross glowing green on the back of his left hand and giving him something to at least defend himself with if need be. But his Innocence hadn't glowed since he arrived here and he knew his physical strength alone wouldn't be nearly enough to fight off a turian.

It took a step forward, extending a hand towards the boy's face, overly long talons glinted wickedly in the light. Somewhere in its body, mechanical pistons whirred, synthetic muscles twitching beneath manufactured skin. More machine, it was, than turian.

"You're afraid..." it said, its head listing to the side in a birdlike motion. The question was ignored. "I can see your other self... Why are you afraid of me...? He cares so much. Why wouldn't I?"

"You're not him," was Allen's quiet response, eyes darting involuntarily towards the child in the mirrors. "And my profession has made me... wary... of people who wear the same appearance as those I care about."

That taloned hand so close to his face - his scar, even, which was already aching a little in sympathy with his reflection - was making him nervous, but he kept his calm facade in place, though not without great effort.

It laughed a little, trailing the tips of its talons lightly over that scar. It was careful not to cut. That would have ruined everything. It knew the Real One was probably screaming at that--he never would have advanced on the boy like this. Such was wrong to him.

"But I am," it said. "I am what he fears he is... and so... I am him." Its head tilted the other way, with an audible crack of mechanical joints in its neck. "You told him... about your..." And the word came out a growl. "Father."

That's not the same thing at all, Allen was about to say - but the mention of Mana made him freeze, made him look once again to his mirror-self, the child who was crying in earnest now. Father...

"What of it?" he whispered, composure beginning to crack now. "I trust him."

((ooc: Romana's jumpin' in here, if you don't mind, so posting order will be Allen, Romana, ...er, anti-Garrus? XD ♥ ))
