"I think we did." Kaoru grinned, scrolling through the comments they had been sending back and forth. "How many of them are searching the garden trying to find us, do you think?"

Truthfully, it felt to Kaoru as if he hadn't laughed so hard, or smiled so much, in a long time. After all, it was pretty difficult for him to pull off their old act by himself, and it was one of their best ways to make some entertainment. It was always fun to see what people made of their borderline-incestuous tendencies.

Nodding, he leaned into his brother a little.

"Yeah, a few." It was hard to get through this place alone though for the most part everyone knew everyone else thanks to the network they all posted to. The size of the place, too made it easy to bump into people here and there; but acquaintances weren't really enough. He'd only struck up real friendships with one or two people.

Come to think of it, most of those were with girls.

"...oh."

"A lot of them." He chuckled.

He turned his head torwards Kaoru. He was glad that his brother didn't have to go through all this alone. But still, Hikaru hated it that he wasn't able to protect him all this time.

After all, that was his main puropse; keeping Kaoru safe and happy. He sighed and started stroking his brother's arm lightly.

"Oh? What's wrong?" He raised and eyebrow and looked at him questioningly.

"We should have set something up for them." Kaoru thought out loud. "Or we should, later. Can't have them thinking you make promises that you don't follow through on."

He smiled when Hikaru touched his arm. This was enough, right? It was enough just to have Hikaru here without troubling him with the things that had gone on before.

"Hmm? Oh, nothing..." he lied, turning his eyes down and picking at a loose thread on his sleeve. "Just... there's something I should have told you earlier, maybe..." He shook his head, covering Hikaru's hand with his. "No, it's fine. It's not important."

"We should! I'd love to see their faces when we perform our little act."

He frowned and squeezed Kaoru's hand. "It seems to be important. You wouldn't have brought it up otherwise." With his other hand, he started gently caressing his brother's hair. "Come on, tell me."

"It was a while ago..." Kaoru stalled. "It... it doesn't matter, really..."

...damn it. It would be a lot easier to hold out if Hikaru would just leave his hair alone. His brother knew him too well, and Kaoru sighed.

"So..." he hesitated, biting his lip, not entirely sure how Hikaru was going to take this, "So... Tono and Haruhi got together, in the end."

"Oh." He stopped stroking Kaoru's hair abruptly.

Tamaki and Haruhi got together. It didn't surprise him that much, but still. He wasn't really sure how he felt about this. He liked Haruhi...and maybe he even had some kind of crush on her for a while.

He looked over to Kaoru and remembered the night they had this Halloween event at school. He cared so much more about his brother than he could ever care about Haruhi. And if he would have gotten together with her, he would have left Kaoru behind and that was absolutely out of question.

Hikaru came to the silent conclusion that it didn't matter to him. He smiled and resumed to twiddle with Kaoru's hair.

"That's good news. They make a great couple."

"Right?" Relieved, Kaoru smiled. "You should have seen Tono before he worked it out. We're talking massive panic attacks over the forums, the works."

He paused. It hadn't quite gone quite as he'd expected. Not that that was a bad thing, but still... the news hadn't been particularly well-received the first time around. Kaoru fidgeted a little.

"...so yeah. That... that was it, really." Slightly embarrassed, he ducked his head a little, blushing. "And I guess it's kind of over now, too but at least they got together."

"Oh I can imagine how studpid Tono must have acted."

He couldn't help but grin when he saw Kaoru blushing.

"You expected me to freak out didn't you?"

Maybe he would have freaked out if the current circumstances were different.

Maybe his pride was hurt a little bit afterall. But he didn't plan on telling Kaoru that.

He nuzzeled his face against Kaoru's neck and mumbled "I bet it's because he's blond."

"Mmm," he admitted, "Maybe a little."

...more than a little, if he had to be honest. But it was good not to have to worry about that any more.

"Or because he's French." he agreed softly, tilting his head a little, his hand sliding up to Hikaru's shoulder, "But that's no excuse for him to act like he's got a mental illness."

"Those weird Europeans..." He closed his eyes, snuggeling closer to Kaoru.

He didn't need Haruhi. Kaoru was the only one he needed. And he never wanted to share him with anyone. He knew that this thought was selfish but he didn't care. Hikaru felt safe and loved when he was with his brother and that was all that mattered to him.

He put his arms around Kaoru's waist, sighing quietly.

"Yeah." It was actually beginning to sound like a convincing theory. It explained Renge, too.

Though now he thought about it, at least there was one upside to being in this place. There were no random blondes to interrupt them, and he could get as close to Hikaru as he liked. There was never such a thing as too close.

The feeling of Hikaru's breath ghosting against the skin of his neck as he sighed made Kaoru shiver a little, and he lifted his head briefly.

"...what are you thinking?"

"Nothing in particular." He smiled at him. "I guess Valentines Day isn't that bad after all as long as we spend it together."

His smile faded as another thought crept into his mind and he tightened his grip around Kaoru.

"Kaoru..?"

"It's been a while since we got one to ourselves," Kaoru agreed, sighing himself. It had only been two years, really, but it felt longer. Between them, Tamaki and Kyouya usually managed to spin out Valentine's Day festivities to encompass the entire week; sometimes two, and saw to it that there were more than enough club activities going on to keep all of the hosts busy. Though they planned what they were going to do behind closed doors in great detail (loudly, and to the squeals of thronging fangirls), they were usually very rarely able to do much more than flop down somehere together, once they finally were in private, and not move for the rest of the evening.

The way that Hikaru strengthened his hold made him worry, though, and Kaoru glanced up again, concerned.

"What is it?" he asked softly, resting a hand against his brother's cheek, "What's wrong?"

He leaned into Kaorus touch. "You.."

Hikaru felt utterly stupid but he needed to know.

"You...didn't meet anyone special here, right?" Once the words had left his mouth, he felt even more stupid. He sounded more like a jealous teenager than an older brother.

He couldn't look Kaoru in the eye, fearing that he might not like his answer. Therefore he turned his gaze away from him and focused a random spot on the wall waiting for an answer.

...Kaoru tried to give his brother the most serious look he could. He really tried.

But it wasn't long at all before he dissolved into laughter, burying his head in his brother's chest until he could calm down. It was ridiculous and stupid and he felt awful, awful for laughing at his brother's expense, but he couldn't help it. He really couldn't.

At length he pulled away, rubbing his eyes and gasping for breath.

"No..." he gasped out, resting his head against Hikaru's shoulder, "God, Hikaru, no, nothing like that!"

Offended by his brother's reaction, he shifted away from him.

Hikaru narrowed his eyes. "What's so funny? It was a simple question!"

Great, he had made a complete idiot out of himself.

But still, this was good news. No girlfriend or special person.
He turned his head away and hoped that Kaoru wouldn't hear his relieved sigh.
