Some white trash whore just came knocking on the door of the flat and said my flatmate sent her here to get cups. She is fat, wearing tacky blue eye shadow, a too small shirt and freaking reeks of cigarettes and liquor. I have no idea if this bit about the cups is true and she's rifling through my fridge so I go in the kitchen to "was a dish" when there's another knock at the door.
At the door is a British kid, can of Foster's in hand. He asks me if Amber is here, I assume he means white trash whore because she says "I'm in here!!" I walk into the kitchen and British kid introduces himself to me. I suppose he can tell I'm semi-annoyed and says "Melanie, don't worry I'm nice. I'm not an Iraqi, I don't have any oil."
.................
It was one of those moments where all I could muster as a response was a WOW because such a completely uncalled for comment in an already extremely rude situation just totally threw me for a loop. I didn't even realize how offensive it was until he left and I thought about what he said. It was one of those "HOLY SHIT I hope they knock again so I can go Revolutionary War on their asses!!!" moments when you wish you had thought of all your amazing comebacks but couldn't muster them through the shock.
At the end of the day, I don't know who is more disgusting. The American college students getting wasted and representing me as a complete dirtbag by association, or this cheeky Brit. If he thinks so lowly of Americans he clearly doesn't mind drinking with them (or fucking American sluts from the south). I would have accepted/not been completely dumbfounded by such a comment if the situation were reversed and I had drunkenly barged into his flat. Then insults and stereotypical slurs would have been somewhat called for.
I think I can safely say it's the first time in my life I've been blatantly stereotyped to my face. I mean, I'm sure as a female there have been times, but other than that I'm just a white, middle class American who doesn't warrant much criticism from the general public. Quite a tale to tell from my European excursion.
