‘It had been a perfectly, completely, and utterly (for the most part) normal day, so how could something as strange and bizarre as this happen?!’ Yunho’s mind raced as he raised his head to take a look at his reflection.
What he saw there was not the usual long face with short, somewhat spiky, light brown hair, but long black silky strands. He turned his head slightly, catching the light with the metal object adorning his ear. Yunho took another glimpse at the shimmering cross dangling there and in the mirror he could see the shine reflect back in the large, round, doe eyes that stared back at him.
He quickly reached for the faucet and a stream of cold water came jetting out from beneath the bronze tap. Yunho cupped his hands, allowing the liquid to pool in his palms before splashing the handful onto his face. He repeated this, letting the chilly substance wash over him and calm his nerves, easing him into a more calm state of mind. Blindly, his hand wavered above him searching for the towel before his long fingers grasped the soft fabric of the towel and brought it down before him. He wiped his face thoroughly before giving himself one final glance in the mirror.
His now wet, long black bangs hugged the small rounded frame of his face, making a sharp contrast with his pale skin. In the corner of his forehead, hovering right above his right eyebrow, Yunho could see a vicious red marked splash across his skin. Inching closer to the mirror to give it further inspection, he could see small purple spots and a slight bump starting to form.
He brought his fingers up to brush against the angry-looking blemish and winced in pain at the aggravation the said digits had caused. He let out a sigh in frustration at his current situation, his slim shoulders drooping forward slightly.
‘What am I going to do?’ Yunho thought as he switched off the bathroom light and exited the room, waiting for the reality of the situation that awaited him on the other side of the door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ Earlier that Day ~~~~~~
“Yunho!” Came a loud yell from down the hall, a yell that sounded suspiciously like Jaejoong. “Yunho, have you seen my…” The voice stopped as he rounded the corner, coming face to face with the man he was calling for.
“Seen your what?” Yunho asked innocently as he stared down at a now pouting Jae.
“…jacket.” He finished, as if he had been holding his breath. Slowly he crossed his arms across his chest as he raised his eyebrow, giving the younger man a look.
“Ah, well about that. I can’t say I have.” Yunho replied cheekily, a not so subtle smirk played across his face as he watched a slightly annoyed look pass over the older man’s.
“Jung Yunho!” Jaejoong yipped as he watched the smirk on the other man’s face grow by the second.
“If you want it, come get it.” He retorted as he switched his and Jae’s positions and bolted out of the room, Jaejoong close on his heels.
Yunho raced down the hall, through the living room, and around the kitchen table, all the while Jae was yelling, ranting about how he was stuck with the world’s most immature (when he wanted to be) bandleader.
Yunho ran back into the living room, rounding on one side of the couch, Jaejoong on the other. He couldn’t help but laugh, sure he knew he was being immature, but it was too much fun getting a rise out of Jaejoong, especially because he thought Jae could be cute when miffed.
Jae made a move to step to his right, Yunho countering by stepping to his left. The older man let out a sigh of frustration, which was more of a cry, as Yunho was sure Yoochun and the others would be able to hear it from their room at the end of the hallway. They continued sidestepping each other, a good five minutes passing before a call could be heard from none other than Junsu.
“Hyung, what’s going on out there?” his confused voice called out to the other two.
“Nothing!” A hurried voice replied. “Yoochun, Junsu, Changmin be ready in five, and meet us by the car, otherwise we’ll be late for practice!”
With that Yunho took off for the genkan*, moving to slip his feet into his shoes and grabbing for said car keys in one fluid movement before opening the front door and running out, all the while laughing at the silliness of the moment, but loving it none the less.
Yunho turned to see Jaejoong in the doorway, the other also hurriedly slipping on his shoes in pursuit of the other. He flashed the older one a brilliant, goofy smile, which was surprisingly returned with one of equal magnitude, albeit a little more shyly.
A loud slam of the apartment door could be heard, and behind it stood three very confused boys.
------------------
Yunho rested his head against the wall in the break room in the back of the studio, sweat running down the sides of his face. He clutched the water bottle in his hand a little tighter, bringing it to the brim of his lips where he gladly welcomed the cool liquid. As he continued to drink, his mind replayed the events leading up to this morning’s practice.
After practically running out of the apartment, they kept it going, running circles around other cars, finally focusing on running around their own. It wasn’t long until the others arrived and by then both of their faces where flushed pink from all the running around. It wasn’t until Changmin reprimanded them, telling them they were acting like a couple of teenagers (which wasn’t that far off) that they finally settled down and got into the van, a smirk still firmly planted on Yunho’s face.
Even now Yunho smiled in triumph, as he still possessed the jacket that had caused the whole ruckus. He had shed it not long into practice, but it was the principle of the matter that counted. He was about to rest his head back against the wall when heard the fast tempo of some foreign song drift into the room.
“baila en la calle de noche , baila en la calle de dia
baila en la calle de noche , baila en la calle de dia”
Perplexed as to what triggered the flow of the strange music, Yunho got up from his spot on the floor and headed towards the door to the studio. Silently he cracked it open a bit further, allowing him access to see the occupant within. He watched as a figure with black hair crouched next to the radio, playing with the various buttons before suddenly standing up.
The figure moved to the center of the room, moving in sync with the distinctly Latino-influenced music. Slowly, his hips moved back and forth in an almost unsure manner. The tempo sped up, the man following the thudding rhythm in beat with his hips, uncertainty being thrown out the window. He continued, placing one foot forward then swinging around with his hips, shifting his body to place the opposite foot forward. In beat he danced, until the music changed tempo, and he spun fast and stopped just as abruptly, one foot placed forward as his hands shot up into the air and hooked around one another.
"yo no sabia que ella bailaba asi,
aquella noche yo me enloqueci”
Sensually he tipped his back, exposing his neck to the bare walls of the empty studio, as he slowly dipped his body lower running his hands down his sides.
“tu sabes que palabra usar, para hacerme suspirar
mantente atento, ya va llegando el momento”
Then suddenly he jumped up, legs spaced apart from one another, creating a “v” shape with the floor, hips shaking noticeably to accent the last words that emitted from the small speakers. Yunho watched mesmerized as Jae continued to dance in place to the music, his body never missing a beat.
The song ended and Yunho frowned in disappointment as he watched Jaejoong stop his movements and walk back over to the radio before fiddling with the dials again. Upon deciding on a song that was to his liking he stood up again, letting the music take over.
“ddeu geu oon ka seum eh neo reul ahneul rae
nae ga jook neun nal gga ji neo man sarang hal rae”
He jumped slightly as his arms crossed over each other before flying to his sides, his feet sliding backwards against the floor as he collected his arms inwards. Then suddenly he jumped forward again, his right foot planted firmly in front as his body leaned over it, back leg suspended a short distance above the ground as he made to go into a turn. He shifted to the right, head bowed and back slightly arched as he walked backwards for a second, before continuing forward by crossing his feet over one another and kicking outward.
“na neun Everything neo man saeng gak hae
ta reun saram eun jeol dae ahn dwea neo ya man hae”
Jae smiled to himself, enjoying the feeling that the music had over him. He enjoyed the sensation that dancing invoked in him, even if he wasn’t always the best at it. Suddenly, he heard a clatter come from the entrance to the studio and saw Yunho sprawled out on the floor before him.
His first reaction would have been to stop what he was doing, and to deny any accusations against him, but he watched as Yunho slowly sat up, a look of embarrassment evident on his face as he rubbed the back of his head. He remembered this morning’s chase around the apartment, and the smiles the man before him had flashed him this morning, and suddenly all inclinations of being shy left him.
Gradually he started sauntering backwards, hand outstretched, finger nodding in a ‘come here’ motion. Yunho quickly picked himself off the ground deciding to succumb to the wishes of his band mate. Slowly, he moved behind Jaejoong, his body fitting perfectly into Jae’s as both of their hips slid side to side. All of a sudden the rhythm of the music was forgotten as the two dipped together, Yunho’s hands placed lightly around Jaejoong’s waist to steady himself. Jae slung his arms up behind him, laying them gently over the other’s broad shoulders. Time seemed to stop as the two danced together, Jae turning his head up to face Yunho’s.
Their eyes meet, and for a long moment they seemed to stay just like that, encircled in the arms of the other, their faces slowly inching closer together. Their noses touched, and Jae could feel his heart beating rapidly within his chest, as if it was about to explode. Yunho shifted his face slightly so as to allow Jaejoong access when a sudden, shrill call pierced through the air breaking the two out of the trance they had been in.
“BREAK’S OVER!” came the annoyingly loud cry from Yoochun before he could hear the footsteps of the others right outside the studio door.
He felt Yunho’s arms disappear from his waist, and watched as the other walked hurriedly across the dance floor.
‘Note to self,’ Jaejoong thought as he watched the others pile in, ‘Remember to kill Yoochun.’
----------------
An uneasy stillness had settled over the Dong Bang apartment, the other three not really realizing what had caused the uncomfortable silence between the two eldest members. Jaejoong stood in the kitchen, hovering back and forth between the counter and the stove making sure everything was okay.
“Hyung~I’m hungry…!” Changmin declared as he poked his head around the wall, strands of long brown hair falling onto face.
Jae chuckled at the whimper that escaped the younger man’s mouth, turning to give his attention to the other. “Dinner will be done soon, no whining.” He instructed, a small smile still on his face.
“Unnn, but I want dinner now!” Changmin stated, his stomach choosing that moment to growl in agreement, further stating his point.
Jaejoong laughed again, rustling the hair on top of the other’s head with his fingers, “Okay, okay I get it. Why don’t you set the table and by the time you’re finished with that, dinner should be done.”
“Alright!” The younger man replied excitedly, hurrying off to pull dishes out of the surrounding cabinets.
Jae’s small smile stayed planted on his face as he returned his attention back to the stove. The hum of Changmin bustling around in the kitchen was a welcomed sound verses the silence that it had replaced. The last timer went off, signaling that the food was ready and Jaejoong reached out slowly to turn off the burners. He continued shuffling around a bit, picking up things here and there, making it easier for when he had to clean it all up later.
The others started appearing in the doorway to the kitchen, each filing into their normal seats. Jaejoong picked up the last pan off the stove and turned to bring it to the table when he saw Yunho enter the room. Their eyes met and Jae offered a diminutive smile to the other, only to have Yunho turn his head away from him fairly quickly. Jaejoong let out a sigh of disappointment, his shoulders slouching forward slightly and he ducked his head from the others.
Changmin watched the exchange from the side of the room, wondering what had happened between the two. He shook his thoughts from his head as he walked over to his hyung and took the pan from the older man’s hand. Jaejoong looked somewhat startled, not having expected the action from the other.
Before they all sat down together Changmin noticed that the usual shine to Jae’s eyes had disappeared, and he firmly decided that someone was going to have to talk some sense into his unmindful bandleader.
-------------------
Changmin hovered over Junsu’s shoulder every now and then pacing back and forth in the cramped work room. His nerves were on end, trying to figure out what could possibly have happened between the older two. Dinner went fine as usual, Yoochun lighting the mood with his stupid jokes about reindeer and coconuts, which nobody really understood, but didn’t stop either way.
“Is there something I can help you with, Changmin? You’re hovering is starting to become slightly stalker-ish, and it’s beginning to creep me out,” Junsu offered, his eyes never leaving the computer screen in front of him.
“Gee, thanks, hyung.” The other deadpanned before returning to his original thought process.
“No problem. Remember, I’m always here for you.” Junsu said flatly, still fixated on whatever he was working on.
“But really, something’s gotten into Yunho-hyung and Jaejoong-hyung, and I can’t figure it out. They’ve been acting weird around each other since practice returned from break.” Changmin finally spilled out.
“Aw, so that’s what’s bugging you. Who knows? Those two are --”
“Sexually frustrated?” a voice from the doorway offered.
“…weird,” Junsu finished, one eyebrow arching in exasperation as he watched none other than Yoochun saunter into the room.
“So this is where the party is? Why wasn’t I invited, not cool enough for the two of you?” Micky said as he pulled up a chair right next to Junsu’s, leaning his head close and putting on his best pouting face.
“Oh, knock it off.” Junsu retorted, pushing on Yoochun which sent his chair sliding back a couple of inches. “Besides, you know we’re too good for you. Right, Changmin?” The other finished as he crossed his arms over his chest and pushed his chin up into the air.
“Right.” Changmin laughed good naturedly at the look of mock heartbreak that crossed over Yoochun’s face. “Hey weren’t you watching TV with Yunho, hyung?” The younger suddenly asked before Micky could shove Junsu back.
“Ah ya, I was, but…”
“But what?” Junsu asked curiously, forgetting temporarily about their pushing contest.
“The brooding and sexual tension was starting to get to me,” he answered jokingly, a smirk on his face. Yoochun quickly turned to his right, suddenly giving Junsu a wickedly suggestive wink.
Junsu’s foot gave the base of the other’s chair a hard shove, sending him sliding across the room causing Changmin to jump to the side so as to avoid getting hit. “Out,” he said, his glare focused on the other.
“Aw, but Junnie you’re no fun,” Yoochun moaned, his pout back in full swing.
“And you’ve obviously been watching too many porn flicks lately,” he cheekily snapped back, arms crossed over his front once again.
“Only when thinking of you~!” Yoochun replied devilishly, blowing a kiss to his friend, and quickly ducking his head out of the doorway. A second later a loud thud could be heard, along with Yoochun’s laughter, as a large book came slamming into the door opposite the workroom’s, obviously having been aimed for the formers head.
Meanwhile, Jaejoong continued bustling around the kitchen, collecting the plates from dinner and getting ready to wash them. He watched as the warm liquid filled into the dishpan, bubbles floating upward from the splashing of the water. He always preferred doing the dishes by hand, it provided a more homely feeling than just sticking them in the dishwasher. Though he would admit to there being days in which if he never saw another plate again in his life time, it would be too soon. He blamed this largely on Changmin’s enormous appetite, which was why there were sometimes so many dishes.
He could hear the low hum of the TV, laughter of some celebrity game show, most likely X-Man, filling the air. Even though he himself had been on the show many a times, he still didn’t always quite get it, and swore the producers had to be under the influence of at least once illegal substance half the time.
Going back to the dishes, he slowly dunked a small frying pan into the soapy substance, running his hands along the inside as to thoroughly remove all the grease that had built up in the cooking process. His thoughts wondered for a second time that evening when he heard a loud thunk emanate through the apartment. Absentmindedly, and pan still in hand, Jae walked over to the arch way to the living room watching as Yoochun emerged from one of the rooms laughing. Shaking his head, he turned around to return to what he was doing when all of a sudden his foot slipped out from underneath him, sliding on the water that had dripped off the pan.
Immediately, Jaejoong let go of the pan, hands reaching forward for the counter so as to steady himself. Before coming into solid contact with the flat surface though, his hands knocked into more dishes sending them clattering to the ground. Finally stabilized, Jae bent over resting his head on his outstretched arms and let out a sigh he didn’t know he had been holding.
“Hey Jae, is everything okay in there?” Yunho’s voice could be heard as said man suddenly appeared right before the entrance to the kitchen. He took one look at the mess all over the floor, and decided to take a step forward to start helping with picking up the dishes, before his foot too slipped and he was sent skidding forward.
His body slammed hard into Jae’s and he could hear the unmistakable sound of head hitting head before both of them were sent sprawling onto the floor. On the way down, Yunho felt the back of his skull connect with the corner of one the cabinets. And if the other slight thump was any indication, it seemed as if Jaejoong’s head had found the cabinet doors.
Both of them just laid there for sometime, the raw throbbing pain in Yunho’s head kept him perfectly stationary on the ground, eyes closed and looking to the entire world as if he had passed out. Gradually, as another minute or so had passed, still with no movement from the other, he ventured out opening one eye slowly followed by the next.
The first thing he noticed was that he was no longer lying by the entrance, where he had indeed fallen. His eyes looked up, (something that was incredibly painful) and noticed that he was closer to the sink, where Jaejoong had seemed to fall. Confused, he tried to sit up and looked at the other body spread out on the floor. Panic quickly set in, wondering just how hard he had hit his head.
“Ahhh!” Yunho shrieked, heart beat quickly increasing tempo within his chest. He also noted that the noise that emitted from his mouth sounded higher pitched than normal.
“Arrrgh, please refrain from screaming. My head feels like it’s going to split,” the other said as he gradually picked himself up off the floor.
If Yunho was freaked out before, it was nothing compared to now. Hearing his voice come from the other was something he was having a bit of a problem with.
Finally, the other stabled himself, leaning his back against the counter, only to jump back in shock. Instead of looking at Yunho, he was looking at himself. After having a good look at the other, each raised their hands, pointing in disbelief, before letting out an ear piercing scream.
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!”
