Literary review :P

Because I can :)

So, I just was reading the next installment of the Black Jewels series, Tangled Webs, and I have to say I wasn't really impressed.

Like, I don't really think that the characters were kept in character, or... I mean, I guess they were, it was just stupid.  The plot kind of sucked, and it was more like you just want to make money or something, because it wasn't actually all that good.  I don't know, I re-read the entire series, then Dreams Made Flesh, and then the new book.  Even DMF had a different feel to it than the original series.  I guess its because the original series there were bad guys and AWESOME plot and really fun characters trying to deal with tough things and how they did it, etc.  Sure, it wasn't perfect, and in reality although the characters were really awesome, it was actually the situation that they were in and the world that actually made them awesome.  This was actually a disappointing realization, however, I realized that just because the characters weren't as great as I initially thought didn't mean I had to love the books any less :P  The Black Jewels Trilogy is still my favorite series at this point in time, though I don't really like Daemon/Jaenelle story in DMF though, or Tangled Webs.  I'd have to re-read Zuulaman and Marian/Lucivar's again to make a decision on what I feel about those.

But I don't know, they just have a less dark and delicious feel as the initial series.  Tangled Webs ESPECIALLY is trying way too hard.  Like I understand the purpose of DMF-- people wanted a better end to the series, and I like the other lil stories in it.  But Tangled Webs is like ...dude, really?  Like there is no point in this, Jaenelle is a HUGE wuss, and not because she wears Twilight's Dawn now.  She just doesn't DO anything.  And they just play up the Protocol and the little errors way too much, I think.  Its like hmm... we have no plot or reason for conflict.  Hey!  Protocol!  We'll use that!  It was just kinda frustrating.  I mean, I really like the concept of Protocol, but I liked the way AB used it in the initial series so much better.  Like, I think that the reason DMF and TW just sound... like they're trying too hard, is because there isn't really anything new in them?  Its a lot of old stuff, but to a much lesser degree because there are no big bad guys, they've fixed the realm, and Jaenelle doesn't have a court.

And really?  So much for the "unofficial" court in this book.  The only person in Jaenelle's first circle that you see in this book is Khary.  And the only other ones mentioned are Chaosti and kind of Morghann.  Its like ...kay, so, where did the rest of the characters go?  That was really frustrating too.  And Rainier?  its like dude, you were barely a side character in DMF!!!  Why do you get to play such a huge role in this next book???  ...Yeah, so it kind of annoyed me.  Not exactly all I hoped it would be, though it had its good moments.  What it really needed though was something new.  New material.

But in my personal opinion, I think it would have been better if she had stopped with DMF.  Or maybe even Queen.  Like, really.
Mmk, so that's the end of my rant. Sorry for boring you guys, because most people probably had no idea what I was talking about. I had to rant though. These things were really bothering me :P

Ooh, and I REALLY have a huge desire to write some BJT fan fic based off of people from real life. How awesome would that be?!!! We'll see if that goes anywhere though. I've got to plan for Easter game, my character next year, and read a couple more books too.

So much to do, so little time :P
