Went walking Sunday and what a beautiful day it was. Saturday I spent car shopping, so by the time I got home from that and errands, I was pooped. Although there is a end in sight now as far as getting a car. I will have two to choose from...yes TWO!!!
Drove a 2007 Spectra and really enjoyed the pick up of it, like the trunk space and it stops on a DIME!!! Gets great gas mileage too. Then I drove a Accent...no power windows/locks...yuck. Then I drove an Elantra...a very nice car. Sharp on the outside and inside. Doesn't have as much pick up as the Spectra and the trunk space when you put down the back seats is weird. There is a plastic archway behind the seats that stays up, so you don't get the full use of the extended trunk...so I didn't like that. Beautiful interior with a lot of space though. The cloth seats are better quality than the Spectra...but it's also a bit more money.
They really wanted me to say YES too...Ford owns Hyundai and Hyundai has been SELLING cars as of July 10th for the CFC bill. I guess corporate gave the dealerships loans to start selling thinking that as long as they have all the paperwork from us, it's a done deal and they will get their $4500 from the government. They've sold 7% more cars this month already..and I can't get Kia to hardly take this as seriously as I am. Although he is now looking at other dealers to get me a new one. Ford was really giving me the hard push..."We want to keep you in the Ford family." So they knocked off another $2000 off the price so it's more in line with the Spectra. But that darn trunk...it's cheaper for insurance too (Elantra). I told them I would let them know this week. Give Kia a few days to look for my Spectra.
I talked to my sister about this and she has a Sportage and she said they all have a narrow wheelbase and she gets stuck in the snow if there's a big snowfall...and here I thought she had 4-wheel drive!! So...that's something to think about too. If there is a snowstorm...they don't plow in town here after 10pm..and I work till 11 so it's usually hard to get out of town to the highway. Once I get to the highway it's usually much better but it's a real challenge getting there...before I just put it in 4-wheel drive, so I need to think of that now too. I guess I'll talk to my friend Jeanne who has a Spectra and ask her if she's ever gotten stuck. Of course...she'll just say that if it snowed real bad...her husband drove her in the jeep!!! *sigh*
I also found that it may get pushed back a bit because they are having problems with the salvage yards...they are going to lose money. They can't sell the two most expensive parts of the cars...the engine and the drivetrain, so they are going to have to try and salvage other parts. They are NOT happy I guess...but it's law!!!! Anyway, the Kia guy thought it might get pushed back to Aug. 1st and then there's a chance I could lose my $3000 manufacturers rebate on the Spectra, so I have a real dilemma. Do I go with the more expensive Elantra or wait for the Spectra and take a chance it gets pushed back to Aug. 1st? Kia isn't selling until the REAL date of Go Live either so now it's hurry up and wait...again.
