Room 408, Tuesday Morning

Mar 30, 2010 19:29

Jak had come back from breakfast to the siren call of his communicator. Torn. Something about a couple of missions they needed Jak to run. Sure, technically speaking he was still recovering from taking on GODZILLA, but it wasn't like Jak ever said no to action ( Read more... )

After their fun little run through town during the fog, Triela figured that it couldn't hurt to catch up with Jak, so she decided to swing by his room. It was also conveniently not far from her own, so that helped.

"Knock, knock," she called as she actually knocked on his doorframe.

"Door's open," Jak said, stuffing the barrel-less Morph Gun into his bag.

Hey, he kept the barrels in the weapons locker. Without them, the gun was just a chunk of metal.

"Going somewhere?" Triela asked, eyebrow quirked curiously as she leaned casually against the door frame.

"I'm getting called in for a few missions," Jak said, zipping up his bag. "Why?"

Triela wasn't able to suppress the envious expression that flashed across her face, or the tone in her voice. Not that she really tried. "Lucky you."

She sighed. "I was going to see if you wanted to swing by the range or something... but you've definitely got better," and more interesting, "things to do."

Jak shrugged. "Just the usual," he said, "Shaking down thugs, roughing up the guards, blowing stuff up."

He swung his bag over his shoulder. "You sound jealous." He sounded halfway interested.

"Do I?" Triela asked wryly. "Maybe I am. A bit."

Or, you know, a lot.

"I haven't had a decent mission assigned since the semester started."

Jak studied her for a couple of moments. He was a loner kind of guy; he wasn't sure why the urge to offer struck him anyway.

"If you want, you can hitch along," he said, "As long as you can keep yourself alive."

Triela's eyes widened in surprise, and she opened her mouth to politelt declie, but then she stopped herself.

"How long?" She asked, trying not to sound too eager at the prospect of some real action.

"Three days," Jak said.

After a long enough pause, he added, "Probably. It depends on how long it takes to get the target."

Three days... Triela considered her schedule. Could she afford to be out of pocket for three days?

Wait... could she afford to pass up a chance to shoot something interesting? That was the real question, and the answer was easy.

"What should I pack for?" Bringing her entire arsenal was probably overkill, after all...

"Bring a lot of guns," Jak said, shrugging casually. "Like I said, I trust you not to get yourself killed."

If she did, she wasn't worth his time. QED.

"Oh, I think I can handle that..." If she was grinning, well, that was because this was sounding better and better.

"I'll have to swing by the weapons locker to retrieve my stuff." She already had a weekend bag packed in her closet. You never knew when you might need to leave in a hurry, after all.

"So do I," Jak said, heaving up his bag once to show it off. "I'm supposed to be back at HQ in half an hour, so I hope you don't have a lot to pack." He might reconsider if she did. He was already heading out the door, after all.

"I'll catch up with you before you get to the stairs," she promised. All it took was a quick dash into her room to grab the half-full duffel bag from her closet and then down the hall to get to Jak before he could make it to the stairs.

Hey, Jak was already at the stairs, thanks. Maybe even down one step. He could be fast, too.

"What took you so long?"
