Linda'd secured a backup laboratory. David had no idea where it was, but Linda led him there via some random Nexus portal like she knew where she was going. She'd adapted to the situation remarkably quickly, all things being equal.
Then again, David thought to himself, she'd worked for Umbrella. Not a damn thing that'd ever come out of an Umbrella lab made any sense. Maybe that had to do with it.
There were no other employees there, and no windows. Linda gave him a hospital gown and told him to strip off with very little preamble. David took a deep breath, asked for a glass of water and two aspirin to help with his hangover, and did as he was asked.
"I'll be keeping you under quarantine for about a week," Linda said, and pulled over a cart full of sterilized medical equipment. "The first couple of days will just be ordinary examinations and observance, not unlike a particularly thorough physical. When I'm not actually... going hands-on, so to speak, I'll be hooking you up to a few monitors to measure your heart and pulse rate, caloric burn, and so on.
"On the third day, I'll be taking tissue and blood samples, and on the fifth day or so, if I don't find anything else, I'm afraid I'll be doing a bit of exploratory surgery. A lot of the time, though, I'll simply be busy in the lab, and you won't have much to do other than sit around. I've got a number of movies and books for you, though, so hopefully, you won't be too bored."
She put on a stethoscope. "Thank you for agreeing to this, David."
David nodded, once.
Linda put the stethoscope in her ears, and started the first stage of the examination.
