Tetsu watched as Hyde pushed his way past the bouncer and disappeared into the bustling street. Tetsu scratched the back of his head and sighed as he walked back towards the tables surrounding the dance floor. He noticed that the crowd had picked up and there were a lot more people dancing and drinking. There was an abandoned pack of cigarettes on a table. Tetsu sat down and helped himself to one. He was not a smoker, but recently when things got stressful, he would have one.
There was a reason why Tetsu was not a smoker or a drinker. He was a lightweight. A few puffs of nicotine and a couple of umbrella drinks and it was pretty much nighty night for Tecchan. The cigarette he had while he watched the dance floor took the edge off. He was in floaty mode when two Latin boys walked by and saw Tetsu, the lonely Japanese man smoking all by himself in a raging Latin club.
“Hola, puta,” said one, walking towards the dance floor.
“Ciao, maricón,” replied the other, heading to the bar.
They passed each other and walked about two steps before doing a double take.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” asked the first in perfect Japanese.
“You look down on your luck,” chimed in the second.
Tetsu looked up and saw two gorgeous men in tight shirts and equally tight pants standing in front of him.
“Lover leave you?” asked the first.
“Cheat on you?” asked the second, glaring at the first.
“Or maybe he doesn’t trust you-“
“Or maybe someone just has CONTROL issues and can’t take it when-“
“No, no, no, no, you’re not making this about you-“
“Who says I’m making this about me, I was just talking to mi nuevo amigo here-“
“Your? Ey, yo vi him first, puta!”
Tetsu stood up and was about to move to another table when the ‘maricon’ grabbed his arm.
“Where you going? Come, join us. Let us show you a good time.”
“That’s all right,” Tetsu declined.
“You like to dance?”
“Not really-“
“Oh, that’s only because you don’t know how-“
“I’d really rather not-“ Tetsu said, turning away.
“How about a drink? Surely you’re thirsty in here. It’s hot and we disturbed you. Let me buy you a drink-“
“No, I’m buying him a drink!”
“Okay fine, you have a drink from the both of us. Come-“
“Do you always bother people who are just minding their own business?” asked Tetsu.
“Loco, no one sits at a table in a Latin club. El club es para dancing, drinking, meeting people, hooking up, not for sitting and twiddling your thumbs.”
“I see,” Tetsu said, looking around as he felt himself being led to the bar.
“What’s your name?”
“Tetsu.”
“Como el metal? Like the metal?”
“No seas tonto, quien va a llamar a su hijo ‘el metal’?!!”
“Ey, was I hablando contigo? -NO! So butt out! Tetsu, qué quiere usted? Can I buy you a drink?”
“Um, I don’t usually accept anything from strangers, well in your case, strange people-“
“Oh! A thousand pardons!! My name is-“
“My name is Victor-“ began Victor, handing Tetsu a shot with a lime hanging out of it.
“Victor la puta, y I am Juan Pablo-“
“El maricón.”
“Cállate, puta,” said Juan Pablo, gesturing to the bartender who brought over another shot with a lemon on a spear.
“Tetsu, you must have a shot with us-“
“No, I think I shouldn’t-“
“Come on, just two shots?” urged Victor, pushing the two glasses towards Tetsu. “Two shots are nothing, baby. Come, drink-“
“We’ll drink with you-“
“No, actually, I’m here with someone-“
“You are? Where is he/she?” asked Victor, ordering a round for Juan Pablo and himself and paying the bartender.
“Did they leave you?” asked Juan Pablo sympathetically. When Tetsu didn’t respond, Juan Pablo pressed him some more. “He left you here, didn’t he?”
“Yes,” Tetsu said, trying to fight off the tears that were ready to spill from his eyes when he remembered the angry face and snarl Hyde had displayed before stomping out of the club.
“Where did he go?”
“I dunno-out of the club to get some air?” sniffled Tetsu, rubbing his eyes with his sleeve.
“Is he coming back?”
“I dunno, I think he might’ve taken a taxi back home…”
“Victor, did you hear that? His friend left him,” said Juan Pablo.
“Well, I always say alcohol makes everything better…”
“Yeah, Tetsu, come, si, yes, have a shot,” Juan Pablo coaxed.
“I shouldn’t-“
“One won’t hurt…” encouraged Victor, pushing the shot glass closer.
“I can’t say it’ll make you feel better, but it’ll make you feel less crappy-“
“I guess I could have one,” conceded Tetsu.
“That’s the spirit. Come, Victor, un brindis to our nuevo amigo Tetsu, may he find peace tonight! Cheers!”
Tetsu swallowed the first shot and sucked the heck out of the lime to chase the burning sensation that filled his throat.
“So, dígame, Tetsu, what do you do for a living?” asked Juan Pablo, taking his first shot.
“Huh?”
“You don’t look like you’re still a student and you look like you have a job, unlike some people over here-“
“Hey, I’m newly graduated!” said Victor defensively.
“From undergrad at the ripe age of 26 might I add,” pointed out Juan Pablo. “After having changed his major a grand total of six times…”
“Cállate, maricón…”
“I’m a musician,” answered Tetsu.
“Really? Like a professional one?”
“Something like that. So, how old are you, Juan Pablo?” asked Tetsu.
“24.”
Tetsu raised his eyebrows.
I am playing in the wrong field here….
“So how old are you?” asked Victor, taking a second shot and pushing another at Tetsu.
“How old do I look?” asked Tetsu carefully, leaving the shot where it stood.
“29?” guessed Victor.
“He can’t be 29!” interrupted Juan Pablo. “He hardly looks older than you, Victor. Look at his face!”
“Okay, maybe 27 or 28 then,” agreed Victor.
Tetsu had to smile.
I guess this is the appeal of going to a bar and hanging out with strangers, huh?
“Let’s just leave it at that, then,” said Tetsu, taking the shot.
“You mean you’re older than that?!” they said together, with surprise written on their faces.
“Maybe,” grinned Tetsu mischievously, his face flushing slightly from the alcohol.
“How much?”
“I can’t say. I might get thrown in jail,” smirked Tetsu.
On one of the side tables, Marisol was giving Ken a lap dance.
“Hey, Ken,” she said sliding her hips up and down.
“Hmm?” he said, blowing a bit of smoke from the corner of his mouth.
“Is your friend okay?”
“Who? Tetsu?” Ken said, sitting up and looking over her shoulder. “He’s just talking to some random guys at the bar.”
“But they’re not Japanese…Latin guys…especially those guys…they’re different, you know…”
“Meh, he’ll be fine,” Ken said extinguishing the cigarette and lighting up a cigar.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, he’s a big boy. He’s not gay. He can take care of himself.”
Then, the music changed from a hip hop remix of some sort to the first few bars of a Reggaeton song.
“Come on, Tetsu,” said Juan Pablo suddenly, taking another shot and pulling Tetsu from the bar stool.
“Wha-“
“Since you won’t tell us your age, you better come dance this song with me-“ Juan Pablo said, starting to mouth the words to the song.
Este menor que usted...
La quiere conocer...
“I don’t dance-“ protested Tetsu, nearly stumbling over himself.
Con su forma de actuar...
Me va a enloquecer…
“We’ll teach you,” said Juan Pablo, dragging Tetsu to the dance floor.
La tengo en mí soñar...
Acaricio su piel...
Le quiero confesar...
yo...
Then Victor came in and spun him around and started mouthing the next part to the song.
No me importa que usted sea mayor que yo
Hoy la quiero en mi cama
“Tetsu, do you understand Spanish?” asked Juan Pablo, stealing Tetsu away.
Y no malinterprete mi intención
Es que no aguanto las ganas
“No, why?” Tetsu shouted over the music.
Por eso he venido a decírselo
Que hoy la quiero en mi cama
“Good, then just enjoy the beat-“ said Victor, stealing Tetsu back and groping him on the butt.
Si no esta dispuesta, ya dímelo
Es que no aguanto las ganas
Dame un chance...
“Reggaeton is not very romantic when it comes to lyrics, but it’s great to dance to-very sexy,” Juan Pablo explained, coming up from behind Tetsu and effectively sandwiching Tetsu between Victor and himself and swaying his hips.
Tetsu was grateful for the assistance as he found he could barely stand straight. He was swaying like crazy and his eyes were tripping out from all the lights. Being sandwiched between two guys seemed like a good way to ensure that his head stayed higher than his feet.
After dancing several songs with them, Tetsu was ready to excuse himself, but suddenly a whole lot of Latin woman (singular) came bouncing right at them.
“Victor!” called a scantily clad woman, running up to them.
“Ey, Tahiti!” he said, welcoming her with a hug and a kiss on each cheek and causing her abundant cleavage to nearly spill out from her top.
“Y Juan Pablo!” she greeted warmly embracing him and kissing him on each cheek.
“Tahiti, this is Tetsu,” introduced Juan Pablo.
“Como el metal?” she asked.
“No,” said Victor, shaking his head.
“Mucho gusto, Tetsu,” she said. “They call me, ‘Tahiti’.”
“Oh, like the tropical island?” asked Tetsu, also receiving a kiss on each cheek.
“Jes,” she said with a thick accent. “Do joo know why they call me ‘Tahiti’?”
“Why?”
“Have you ever seen Tahitian dancing?” asked Victor.
“No, I’ve seen hula dancing though.”
“Tahitian dancing is similar to hula, but not as smooth. The drums are faster, there’s not as much vocal accompaniment, and the female dancers themselves are known for their hip and butt movements. They call her ‘Tahiti’ because of they way she moves-“
Tahiti raised her hands up and rotated her wrists as the introduction to the next song was being cued up.
“Tahiti, show Tetsu what it’s all about,” cheered Victor as she began swaying her hips.
As Tahiti moved, Tetsu soon realized that everything was planned. When she shook her upper body, her breasts jiggled as they were barely being held in by her tight black top. Her short frilly skirt with the pleats shifted with every snap of her hips and every booty pop she did for him. She was barely covered with most of her skin exposed for all the world to see.
“Venga, Tetsu,” she said moving towards him. “Let us dance together! Follow my lead…”
Tahiti rubbed up against him, her ass gyrating to the beat as she placed her arms around his neck.
The music was loud and bumping. Tetsu, who was always aware of the bass carrying the melody no matter what genre of music it was, found himself becoming more and more lost in the monotony and drone of the predominantly Reggaeton music that shook the floor and walls of the club. Victor and Juan Pablo kept on bringing him more drinks and stealing dances between Tahiti.
Sometime between his first dance with Tahiti and the 5th or 6th shot from Victor, Tetsu knew he was losing touch with reality. He had no concept of time and his brain was telling him to stop drinking, stop dancing and humping Juan Pablo’s leg, and to go home to Hyde even though Hyde was pissed at him. But it was like his body was stuck on auto pilot and refused to walk towards the door despite the nagging from his brain.
Tetsu was not sure when Tahiti had even ceased to make her presence known, but soon he felt like everything from the music, voices, smells, lights, and people had become a blur. He was so far gone that he did not notice when Hyde came around the back to look for him sometime later after having cooled off.
“Ken, where’s Tetsu?” shouted Hyde to Ken who was dancing with Marisol.
“I dunno, he was talking to some guys awhile ago.”
“Some guys?”
“And a girl-“ added Marisol.
“Oh yeah, we saw him with a chick,” said Ken.
“Tahiti, the girl they were dancing with is Tahiti-good thing your friend Tetsu is not married, right, Ken?” said Marisol, pressing herself against Ken.
“Why?” asked Hyde.
“Tahiti seemed to really like your friend. She was dancing her special dance-“
“What special dance?”
“The one she dances when she wants a guy. But Ken said he’s not married so no prob-“
“Where are they?” demanded Hyde.
“Did you check the bathroom?” asked Marisol.
Hyde stormed off towards the bathroom, intending to give Tetsu a piece of his mind about some girl named Tahiti. What he had not been prepared for was seeing Tetsu pressed up against the wall, his face redder than a lobster, and trying to fight off two men who were trying to have their way with him.
“Come on,” said the taller one, unbuttoning Tetsu’s shirt and licking his nipples.
“Stopppp….p-p-p-lease….let me go home-“ Tetsu pleaded, trying to push them off of him.
“Look at how hard you are,” said the other, rubbing the front of Tetsu’s pants as the other held Tetsu’s hands above his head. “You want it-“
“Get the fuck away from him,” said Hyde, his cigarette hanging out of the corner of his mouth.
“Who’s there?!”
“Hydeeee…” moaned Tetsu, trying to wiggle out from their grasp, though not very successfully as he was so drunk he did not know up from down at this point.
“Let him go,” said Hyde, fuming.
“Who are you-“
Hyde cut the taller one off with a sharp punch to the man’s gut and then when he doubled over in pain, he sent an equally powerful kick to the man’s jaw.
When the shorter of the two tried to come at him from behind, Hyde whirled around and kicked him too, throwing him off balance. Hyde reached forward and grabbed him by the shirt.
“Did you do anything to him?!” Hyde said puffing smoke in his attacker’s face as he had him against the mirror.
“N-N-No!”
“I’ll come back for you and beat the shit out of you if you harmed him-“
“We didn’t, I swear! We didn’t realize he was with someone-”
“He was begging you to let him go! No means no! Scum of the earth!” Hyde said, slamming his head into the mirror, knocking the second one unconscious too as the mirror cracked into five triangular pieces from the blow.
“Hyde,” Tetsu whimpered, trying to button his shirt up.
Hyde turned to Tetsu and glared at him.
“You belong to me and only me!” Hyde spat angrily and forcefully. “You got that, Tetsu!”
“Oh, Hyde, your body is better and you do care!!” bawled Tetsu, stumbling on himself and fortunately being glomping distance from Hyde’s arm, he was able to prevent a near crash into the bathroom sink.
“Let’s go,” Hyde ordered, throwing his cigarette onto the ground and stamping it out with the toe of his pointy leather shoe.
Hyde dragged Tetsu out of the club, who was not being very cooperative as he kept tripping on stuff and bumping into things.
“Hey, man, you got a light?” a drunk called to Tetsu.
“Nope, but he’s got-Whoa…”
Hyde grabbed Tetsu by the collar and directed him from the street and back onto the sidewalk.
“TAXI!” Hyde called, waving his hand at the green car at the corner.
“Parking lot over on Chuo-doori,” Hyde said, shoving Tetsu into the back seat. “And step on it, unless you want him to puke in here.”
They made it in a record five minutes flat. Hyde paid the driver and dragged Tetsu to the dark parking lot.
