The weeks came and went. Hyde was determined to regain his mobility 100 percent, so he spent long hours of the day working with his physical therapist who came by the house every day during the weekdays to assist Hyde in his rehabilitation.
Tetsu was busy working out the logistics for their next tour now that he had his vocalist once again. He spent most of the day on the phone talking to people or out on the road checking things out. Sometimes Ken and Yuki came over to entertain Hyde, who was glad for the distraction, but clearly bothered by the fact that he needed assistance from time to time.
Hyde had worked out a routine that helped him get readjusted to life once again. He was living with Tetsu rent-free and there was no way he could be out on the road helping Tetsu, so he figured the least he could do was help out around the house to keep his mind occupied.
Hyde’s day usually started out at 5 am, when he woke up. He took a shower, got ready, cooked breakfast. At around 6:30, Tetsu would roll out of bed and wander into the kitchen for his coffee, when Hyde would hand him in his favorite Gundam mug. Tetsu would take a couple of bites, wander off to the bathroom and emerge fully dressed, ready to ‘take over the world right after he finished his breakfast’.
Tetsu usually disappeared after that. Sometimes he worked downstairs. Other times, he went out and did whatever it was that he did during the day. Hyde would straighten up the house until about 9. Then he had his physical therapy and exercise until the early afternoon, after which, he would do a load of laundry and start cooking dinner. Before he knew it, Hyde had become Tetsu’s little ‘housewife’ in an attempt to return to a ‘normal life’-not that he minded. Tetsu had offered to hire someone, but Hyde insisted that he do everything himself.
Hyde’s highlight of the day was of course dinner. Tetsu always came home for dinner. No matter how busy he was or how many things he had to do, he always came home for dinner. Tetsu floated in sniffing the food and always sat on the corner stool. Tetsu’s arrival was always the best part of the day because Tetsu would just shower Hyde with praise about how wonderful of a cook he was or how exquisite the different flavors were or how great the house looked. Hyde basked in the shameless ego boosting and decided that Tetsu was the best ‘husband’ in the world.
Hyde wanted to shoot himself for not moving in with Tetsu earlier as his ‘live-in wife’. He loved how Tetsu fawned over him and always wanted to make sure he was being taken care of. Tetsu always gave him money to spend on things he needed for the house and told him to buy completely useless things too, like clothes and knick-knacks. Living with Tetsu was the greatest. Tetsu never really expected anything out of Hyde, but whenever he did something, Tetsu always made sure to express his appreciation. For a while Hyde even forgot that he had been married because his current reality was so much better than what he had previously experienced.
The way Tetsu always offered to help clean up and wash the dishes made Hyde feel all warm and fuzzy. Tetsu would usually wash and Hyde usually rinsed or wiped the dishes. And as was bound to happen when washing dishes, their hands would brush against each other. When that happened, Tetsu would blush and pull his hand away shyly. It was amusing to watch, but Hyde often wondered why Tetsu never took his ring off his finger when he washed the dishes.
Hyde realized in no time that he was the ‘queen bee’ of the house, so to speak. Constantly the center of Tetsu’s attention and ‘affection’, he was not prepared to share Tetsu with anyone-not now, not ever.

Tetsu departed from the house as usual one morning to inspect an auditorium he wanted to book for their next tour now that he had his vocalist back in business.
“I’m sorry there was a scheduling conflict. I thought that the auditorium was going to be empty-“ began an older gentleman escorting the band leader through the auditorium.
“It’s okay,” Tetsu said following him. “It’s good that I can see the lighting and hear the acoustics for myself before booking.”
“Personally I think that the acoustics are rather good in this auditorium.”
“I would agree,” Tetsu said, stopping midway in one of the walkways as he observed the orchestra rehearsal going on below. “Do they usually tune their instruments before they start?”
“Yeah, I think they play ‘A Whole New World’ from Aladdin before they actually rehearse. They play it and tune as necessary. They’ve been playing for awhile though…”
“Are the microphones on right now?”
“They are.”
“I see,” Tetsu said thoughtfully as he looked up at the spotlights.
“Is there something a matter?”
“Hmm.”
He looked to Tetsu to elaborate, but Tetsu said nothing.
“What’s wrong?”
“Well, I was trying to figure out if it was the microphone or if it was the instrument.”
“The mic or an instrument?”
“Well, it sounds like one of the violins is off.”
“Off?”
“Second row, third chair. He’s flat.”
“Flat? How can he be flat? I listen to these pieces every day. It hasn’t changed. Besides, there are like twenty violins up there. How can you tell that only one is flat? And which seat it is?!”
“I think some of them are violas, but I guess that would be irrelevant. And I can tell that it is off because one doesn’t sound the same as the others. He sticks out a little. Like if you were to pound 100 nails in a straight line, all uniform, except for one that was pounded just a tad too hard so that it sunk in slightly lower than the rest. That is visually the sound of a slightly flat violin.”
“And you would know this because…?”
“Trust me; I built a band from the ground up. I may not be the best musician, but I do know what a flat stringed instrument sounds like. For the first three years we were together someone was flat or off beat. And well, if you wanted to get technical, I think there are two or three people that during parts of the piece were half a beat behind everyone else…I think one was someone in percussion, another was a French horn, and the other was the oboe…or maybe an English horn-“
“You really are as good as they say you are,” clapped a voice, descending from one of the higher rows. “Tetsu from L’Arc~en~Ciel….they told me you inspected all the auditoriums before you committed. I didn’t know you also critiqued the other musicians.”
“And may I ask your name?” asked Tetsu courteously.
“Kasahara Narumi.”
Tetsu was surprised to see a woman step into the light. In a form-fitting pin striped suit, his unexpected visitor was stunning.
“Kasahara-san,” said Tetsu, finding his voice.
“Please, call me by my first name. Kasahara-san sounds like you’re addressing my father-“
“Narumi-san, are you the manager of this auditorium?”
“Yes, I’m one of the grandsons in charge of running this place.”
“Grandson?” asked Tetsu, staring at Narumi’s fair skin, heart shaped face, and big eyes accentuated by long eyelashes and beautifully shaped eyebrows.
“It’s the long hair isn’t it?” he said, brushing a loose tendril from the side of his face to behind his ear. He turned his head and Tetsu saw that he had pulled his pin straight ebony hair into a low ponytail at the nape of his neck.
“To be perfectly honest,” Tetsu began. “You have an extremely beautiful face.”
“You are too kind,” he smiled. “Please, if you are not busy, let me take you to dinner.”
Tetsu felt himself swoon as the gentle smile of his androgynous companion brought thoughts of guilt to his mind.
Stop it; he’s NOT Hyde. But I’m not cheating on Hyde…Hyde doesn’t remember us. Why is he so pretty like the Hyde fifteen years ago then? This has got to be some test of my moral fiber-or lack thereof…Someone up there really doesn’t like me…
