Hexagon II Quiz Parade!!

Ahh, have you ever spent copious amounts of time watching a show that you know does nothing for your brain?  Hexagon II Quiz Parade!! is the epitome of jikan no mudazukai (wasting time).  Ahh but it is hilarious. It's wildly addicting....

It's your typical Japanese game show with a snarky MC (Shimada Shinsuke), who might I add is quite skillful at jump rope.  The show starts off with the results of the paper test the regulars on the show take to determine what team they will be placed on.  So the person with the highest score sits in for example, the first seat of the pink team, then the next highest score goes to the orange team, the green team and then back to the pink team.  So technically each team has more or less an equal chance at winning since the intelligence level is more or less equal (though some of the regulars are more of a handicap than anything...)

There are different segments that they have the contestants play but most of the segments are centered around making the contestants of the show answer questions of different levels.  Some of the questions are obscure, but most of them can be answered by a literate Japanese person.  A college graduate that periodically watches the news or reads the paper would be able to answer most of the questions on the show.  Each team has six members most of the games either involve the entire team or just the two members that have the lowest scores to compete against each other.

The games that involve the two intellectually challenged members of the team doing some sort of elementary level math problem, answering questions about Japanese history, or read somewhat difficult kanji, often with ridiculous answers from regulars like Kinoshita Yukina, SUZANNU, Motoki Daisuke, Minami Akina, Kamiji Yuusuke, Yamada Shintarou, Tsuji Nozomi, Satoda Mai, misono, and Yaguchi Mari.

They also have the other fun stuff for the team like making them jump rope while answering questions, trying to be the first team to clear all the questions (see picture below), pictionary shiritori while one teammate stands over a vat of hot water...you know the drill.  They're not as crazy as shows like 'Haneru no Tobira' as the main goal is to answer the questions and win points for your team, but it doesn't mean that the contestants aren't a riot when they answer the questions.

Ahh, and here is my hunny, Sakimoto Hiromi (below).  Is he not just the cutest, prettiest thing ever?  He's one of the more intelligent regulars.  While most of the female participants are B-list models or idols, the male ones tend to be either former athletes, comedians, or entertainers.  I don't know where they picked up my Saki-chan, but he's definitely ikemen and a graduate of Keio University.  I like him because he reminds me of Mizushima Hiro...and MatsuJun...minus the attitude.  Not that I don't love my JunJun.  Sakimoto Hiromi is just like cotton candy.  He's so fluffy and I just want to eat him.  XDDD

Shimada Shinsuke also produces a bunch of minor bands that perform on the show and they have two albums, WE LOVE HEXAGON and WE LOVE HEXAGON 2009.  The songs are admittedly quite catchy and Shinsuke-san apparently writes most of the lyrics to the songs.  The lyrics are hilarious to most of the songs as are the names of the bands and the actual titles of the songs.  There are groups like EA BANDO (Air Band), Pabo, ARAJIN, and Shuuchishin.  Not to mention song titles like 'Mr. Gigolo', 'Hitotsu 500 en de kaitorasete itadakimasu' (a song about the musical chair nature of the entertainment industry) and 'Waga teki wa ware ni ari' (meaning, 'We are our worst enemy').  Anyway, I'll probably be translating a bunch of their songs for practice.  Sorry if your f-lists get spammed.  If you're at the intermediate-advanced level of Japanese looking to take your Japanese to the next level, watch this show.  It's funny and with intermediate Japanese, you can probably understand most of the jokes.  Osusume shimasu!
