REVELATION OF IRIS’S TRUE CHARACTER (but Sho is too blind and idiotic to see)

Having discussed Iris’s drink selection and what that has got to do with her designer handbag, her character and whatnot, let’s go a little more into the character of the woman. So far, I have demonstrated that Iris is a person who thinks she deserves the best and when the ‘best’ or what she thinks is the best is denied to her, she will resort to unscrupulous means to get it ( ... )

Then, we get another hint that Iris is a rich girl long used to getting her own way. She is also sullen when what she has isn’t what she expects. Notice her reaction when she realises that the book she stole from Isabelle’s office isn’t the book she expected it to be. Iris is sulky and immediately says the book is useless. Not only does she declare the book useless, she also (i) impugns Isabelle’s character in a backhanded way denouncing the professor’s perversity in keeping a dictionary behind the paper cover of a fancy research book, (ii) subtly denounces her advisor Aides for failing to get back to her when she wanted her RM, (iii) laments sullenly that her breaking, entering and stealing attempt was a waste of time, (iv) complains that she has break and enter again to put the book back. There is no embarrassment or shame in her account to Sho. It was all a thinly veiled, “Damn Aides and damn Isabelle for making me resort to this. Damn Aides and damn Isabelle for making me steal a useless book. Damn them for wasting my time. I ( ... )

Iris is indeed a willful spirit. She is extremely annoyed that she went through all that trouble to steal the 'wrong book'. It makes one wonder why she feels she needs to have a PhD. In Japan, I would say that most people do not pursue beyond a bachelors degree. A majority of the work force seeks out employment during their third year and by graduation are employed. (Most companies start in April and on the job training is the norm). What you studied in university for the average university grad is irrelevant. The company will train you and give you company specific knowledge and experience which sort of perpetuates the whole 'lifetime employment' system common to the infrastructure of many Japanese companies. But that's something for another day ( ... )

Most females here are the same 'domestic engineers', in my day as an undergrad Uni was a last ditch attempt to get a man. You should see the sneers I got when I said I was there for an education. The lasses here want to be 'tai-tai' which is Mandarin for 'rich man's wife'. People do ask me why the PhD when it means I'll be an old spinster and I give them a pitying look (which of course they don't get ( ... )

I used to make fun of those bimbos in my class that were there to get their M.R.S. 'degree'. What a waste of space and money to educate someone who has no desire for learning. Their parents should invest their money in people like you and me instead of their own foolish children. We could put that wealth to better use.

Breaking the mold is fine and dandy, but as my Japanese friend from university always told me, 'Smart girls don't get asked on dates. If you're too smart, you'll scare all the guys away. You have to act a little stupid to get a boyfriend, you know." I found that logic a little disturbing and extremely disturbing when I realized that it was shared with so many people.

Was this the uncle that sees his children like investments or is this a different swine?

The same swiney uncle. A brother of the progenitor, what do you expect. Meh.

All my exes told my mum they knew they were not as smart as I was, it didn't stop me from getting dates when I was younger. Of course now that I am 29, this belief that "smart girls are frightening' is rearing its head on me. People stay away from me when they realise that I have a Master's degree in political science and dabble in languages and research (in my freelance work) that most others wouldn't give two figs about. Then it surprises them when I say things like, "I called earlier to book a table but I neglected to mention that it will be for a party of four". They will go, "So difficult. Who talks like that, eh? What talking you?" Gods! No wonder Artemis and Athena are virgin goddesses who hated men.

Can we just dig a really REALLY big hole in front of your uncle's house so that when he takes his presumably fancy car out for a spin, that he drives right into the hole? Cue cement truck...oh no--wait! Let's cover him in volcanic ash like the people of Pompeii in what was it, 79 AD? We should preserve him so that future generations can appreciate his swine figure.

Ahh, but you are one osoroshii woman. Very intimidating because of your genius. Good thing I am attracted by your genius. We can be single together <3333

I called earlier to book a table but I neglected to mention that it will be for a party of four

XDDDD I had to read that twice. At first I was like, 'I don't see anything wrong with that. What's so difficult about that?' *pause* 'Ohhhh....neglected to mention' XDDD

Yes. While we're at it, let's dump both our progenitors there too! Bwahaha.

Frightening? Little old me with my sickly appearance and slight stature? Heh... That's what frightens people I suspect. They can't reconcile what they see and what comes out from my brain. Yes, we shall be spinsters together! *makes plans*

Exactly, imbecility is an air borne disease along the line of SARS I suspect.

I wonder if death by volcanic ash is painful? Does one suffocate as the chemicals burn the lungs or does the ash burn one's skin? Hmm....

Can't reconcile XDDDD I'm sure that's probably at the root of it. We shall be happily unmarried.
