Title: Now and Forever…いつまでも…

Author: Mayonaka no Taiyou/Unare Haineko

Pairing: [Juntoshi] Matsumoto Jun x Ohno Satoshi

Rating:  PG-13-ish overall

Summary: This story follows Ayumu, a more or less normal child born in 2012, three years after the ending of ‘Kodoku kara Umareta Ai’ (which you can read here).  His parents, Jun and Ohno, are everything but ‘normal’ in their often unconventional attempts to deal with some of the challenges of parenthood as they try to ‘blend in’ with ‘normal people’.

It was three in the afternoon and Nino was putting on his shoes when Daisuke approached him from the side.

“Kazu-san?”

“Yeah?” Nino said, with a A4 clear plastic folder in between his teeth while he tied his shoelaces.

“Will you be out late?”

“I have a meeting, followed by a boring dinner with some guy my manager wants me to meet.  I’ll probably be home around ten or eleven.  Why?”

“Will you be tied up the entire time?”

“Probably.  What’s up?”

Nino stood up and dusted his pants off and fixed his jacket.

“May I request the evening off?”

“To…?”

“Someone just asked me out on a date.”

“Who?!” demanded Nino a little louder and with a little more emotion than he intended.

“This guy I met on the internet.”

“You’re going out with someone you met on the internet?!”

“Why not?  We’ve been talking and emailing each other for about two months.  He invited me to dinner.  I’ve finished the errands you assigned to me and you’re not coming home until later.  The dinner is at six thirty.  We have reservations at La Glycine in Roppongi next to that Japanese restaurant with the green sign, what is it-Shimizu-ya?  Anyway, we should be done by nine.”

Nino opened his mouth as if to say something then closed it.

“You told me to tell you if I ever wanted to request some time off, so…”

“Okay,” Nino said abruptly before opening the front door.  “Don’t stay out too late.  It’s dangerous.”

Nino left without so much as another word leaving Daisuke with a smirk on his face.

He’s jealous…A million to one says he ditches that dinner and tries to spy on mine…

5:37 PM…

“Satoshi-papa…this doesn’t look right…” Ayumu said staring at the goopy mess that Ohno had dumped on a bowl of rice and had sitting in the middle of the table.   “What is this supposed to be?”

“Oyako-don,” Ohno said chucking the pan he had been using into the sink.

“Why does the meat look funny?”

“Just eat it.”

Ayumu made a face, but he picked up his chopsticks and begrudgingly partook in what Satoshi-papa had prepared.

“It tastes funny, Satoshi-papa,” complained Ayumu after the first bite.  “When is Jun-papa coming home?”

Ohno picked up the bowl and tasted it for himself.  Ayumu watched as Ohno took out his cell phone and dialed it quickly.

“Kaachan?” he said after the first ring.  “I have a question.  How do you make oyako-don?”

“Why are you trying to make oyako-don?”

“Ayumu insisted on eating oyako-don…and I made it, but it tastes funny…”

“What happened?”

“I dunno…We had onions, eggs, and all the stuff to make the sauce-“

“Wait, what about the chicken?”

“Well, we didn’t have any chicken and I was too lazy to go out and buy some…”

“So how did you make oyako-don then?”

“I improvised.”

“You improvised?  How do you improvise without chicken for oyako-don?”

“I used the pork we had in the freezer.”

“…”

“Kaachan?”

“Satoshi.  You can’t use pork for oyako-don.”

“Why not?”

“Because oyako-don has to be made from chicken!  Hence the name! ‘OYA’ is the parent.  In this case, the chicken.  ‘KO’ is the child.  In this case the egg!  Sadistic, yes, I know, but you can’t use pork instead of chicken for oyako-don!”

“Oh…”

“Where’s Jun?”

“He went to go ‘find himself’…”

“What do you mean he went to go find himself?”

“I dunno, I came home yesterday and he was gone.  Just a note taped to the fruit bowl saying not to bother him-“

“Say no more, Satoshi.  I’ll come and pick the two of you up.”

“What? Why?”

“I feel bad for Ayumu.  Let me take you out to dinner.”

“No, we can eat the same thing we ate yesterday-“

“What did you feed him yesterday?”

“Ramen.”

“From where?”

“I dunno, the sesame oil flavored one in the white package with the boy on the front-“

“You fed Ayumu DEMAE ICCHO PACKAGED RAMEN FOR DINNER?!  What is wrong with you, Satoshi?!”

“What?  I like that ramen.  And he liked it too-“

“That is WAY too much sodium for him in a 24-hour period!  Didn’t Jun tell you not to give him too much salt and sugar?!”

“You give him candy all the time!”

“Not as meal replacements and because I know Jun is making sure he’s eating properly-”

“Oh.”

“What did you guys eat for breakfast and lunch?”

“Well, there were three packets left, so…ramen…and curry…”

“Let me guess instant curry too…You know what?  Get him ready and meet me downstairs in ten minutes.  That poor boy needs some real food before Jun really kills you when he comes back.”

“Where are we going?”

“Shimizu-ya.”

“Where’s that?”

“The Japanese restaurant right by that French restaurant La Glycine.”

“We don’t need to go that far-“

“They have good oyako-don.  Ayumu deserves something good after all that junk I bet he’s been eating-Honey, we’re going to take Satoshi and Ayumu out to dinner.  If you’re going to buy those slacks, hurry up and buy them already. You know you’ll never wear those khaki ones, so stop trying to convince yourself that you like them.  Just get the navy blue or the black ones you always get-Your father and I are in Mitsukoshi, we’ll be there shortly.”

“He hasn’t been eating only junk-“

“Has he been drinking his milk?  You know Jun, no juice at meal time-”

“Do condensed milk popsicles and string cheese count?”

Click.

“Kaachan?”
