I hate small talk, I really loathe it. It means nothing, and you might as well just go "blah, blah blahdey-blah". Like when you're at a funeral, and you have to go through that cursed line-up with the family. You're meant to say something along the lines of "sorry for your loss" but that is just so meaningless and cliche, it refuses to come out of my mouth. Nothing you say can really offer much comfort, and hopefully the family know you care just by you being there. So the small talk bit of it really frustrates me. And the awkward "stop and chat" with people you know well enough to have to "stop and chat" with on the street or in college or whatever.... cringe. "Hey!! *cue uncalled for raise in tone of voice and eyebrows* how are YOU!!" and of course you have to be "fine" or "oh, great" or if you're an irish mammy "sure, I'm grand, thanks be to god". ugh!
