will somebody please tell me the logic -- not the explanation, the *logic* -- for why blockbuster, a "family establishment" (*sigh*) will not get mature, adult international art films in their original theatrical release form (bad education, shortbus, the dreamers, and most recently, lust caution), and will only rent the downplayed, altered r-rated version, or won't rent it at all, and yet they will gladly rent any "unrated, now with extra footage" raunchy comedy or horror film, altered to be more *whatever* from its theatrical release. i mean, what a double-standard! and it works both ways -- i would really love to see the original theatrical "the 40-year-old virgin" as much i would like to see the original theatrical "lust, caution." why? because it's HOW THE DIRECTOR INTENDED IT.
