The Inevitable Return

So some of you have waited much too long for this blog, sorry about that. I will do my best to catch you up . . .

My trip home was amazing. I just the world over there. I think of it as a world- or maybe a self-contained little island, well at least in my day-dreams.

I rode back after getting off work. A task that is not really enjoyable, but nevertheless interesting. I resumed listening to "Cell" by Stephen King in audiobook form. I really got into it this time around! It's a lot like "The Stand" (to the point of being un-original I suppose), but I still really enjoyed it. I got to Longview around 5:00 AM.

After the customary visit with dad (as he's usually getting up for work then), I struggled to get some sleep. My mom and I spent the day together doing all kinds of fun things, mostly finishing off "Battlestar Galactica Season 2.5." I authored some DVDs for her to have so she could own part of the series.

We went out as a family to Pepper's 49er in Castle Rock with my grandparents for some so-so dining. I think everyone else was happy with their food but my steak wasn't very good. Juicy, though. Itwas very, very nice to see my grandparents. I was long over-due to see them. My Grandma gave me some home-made Jelly and Jam which so far is wonderfull.

We caravaned up to my parents new property to check out what dad's done to the land. He's getting the ground prepped for the shop/apartment to be put in. The land changed quite a bit. I love that my dad is so into the property. I've always admired his projects (even if they can be a trifle over-whelming sometimes).

It was strange to be among three generations of LaFountaine men out at that property. I hate to be such a realist but I realize that times like that can be rare. To get three generations of us together like that in one place for a thing that all three of us care about. This is where a home will be built in our family. Maybe I can't describe it well enough, but it's a very powerful and touching experience- ethereal.

Well, the next day was rather low-key. I made Impossible Taco Pie with my mom (a cool casserole she taught me how to make). I spent a while with the family. It's hard to let go of that . . .

That night I drove down to Vancouver. Right after the La Center exit I hit some HORRIBLE congestion. I mean, this was 9:30 at night and I didn't get to Nick's house until near 12:00 I think. I listened to a ton of "Cell." I got a little lost when I finally reached the next exit (179th) to get into Hockinson and come to Nick's the back, back, back way (there was a detour preventing a direct route).

When I showed up I was pleasantly surprised to see Wes there, too! We went and got some Jack In the Box (where they introduced me to Matisyahu) and did a little krunkin' and played some Far Cry: Instincts and then we watched "Hustle and Flow." I was the only one that made it through. It was an average flick. Better than "8 Mile" (I'd have to agree with Nick on that).

In the early afternoon, we went for some Sushi Hana (formerly Sushi World). I love that place, it's so great. Nick and I went shopping for shorts. I ended up with a couple shirts, too. Then I went over to Chad's new place (Aaron's old place) to meet up with Wes to head to the Oakenfold show. I got to see some people I hadn't seen in forevs (Chad, Aimee, Becca, Jeremy, Ean . . .).

Wes and I booked it over to the Oakenfold show to meet James. I had a cool talk with Wes on the way over. We talked about Canada, life, women, possibilities of me moving back to Vancouver . . . it was a good convo.

It was cool seeing James again, too. He actually offered me a place to stay if I moved back which is food for thought.

The concert was fucking amazing. The opening DJs were pretty decent. They spun a little longer than I would have hoped, though.

When Oaky took the stage, the place became electric. He did a stellar job. I warmed up to it as time went on. I danced with a girl up front who Wes and I both thought looked like Krista (my ex). I took a break for a slice of pizza and went back in to the crowd. I managed to get a little flyer and a Perfecto Records shirt signed by Paul Oakenfold himself. Truly amazing.

Anyway, I went back to Nick's (Wes had to work in the AM) after a brief stop at Chad's to get Wes to his car and meet up with Nick. I got to see even more people I hadn't seen in a while and some newbies. There was Aaron and Amber, Nicole, and some girl from Kentucky. Not to mention Alicia, Heather's sister.

After a trip to Muchas Gracias (man we need one of those out here), we went back to Nick's. I watched "The Big Lebowski" with him and then hit the road.

Well since I've been back, my roomates are now gone. I need to find new ones or I might have to move back to Vancouver or Longview. It will be tight to see which way I'm going to go. I'm placing an ad in the paper tomorrow (er, later today, since I can't sleep).

I'm currently addicted to Star Wars: Empire At War. I love that game!

I'm going for my Food Handler's Card tomorrow before work. Yay. I also need to send off my old phone tomorrow. Man, I love my new phone. It's more than I was hoping for, really.

The only other bit of news would be two great movies I've seen in the last week. "Clerks II" was fucking awesome. Waaaay funnier than I expected, to be honest. And I just got back from doing the technical screening of "Miami Vice." Michal Mann has NOT lost it. This movie is amazing. It may even be better than "Heat" or about as good as, in my book. Go watch it. I was surprised not to hate Collin Farrel either. Superb story, drama, action, music, camera work. Mann at his best.

Anyway, I work . . . so I need to force myself to get some sleep.
