[The screen clicks on, and Naoya is staring at it rather blandly. If one looks at his surroundings, they could see he's sprawled over a bed, a laptop nearby. This part is Filtered from Kiyoshi, and is utterly unhackable.]Hmn...I'm curious, Somarium. I have two questions...answer both, if you will

And ask yourself--who has the right to decide what is for someone's own good? To do something for someone else's own good, particularly against their wishes...isn't that the worst sort of condescension?

People do things without having 'the right' to all the time. Just because it is presumptuous or isn't right doesn't make it a less valid option. And aren't there people out there who would surrender their right to choose for themselves, anyway?
For that matter, people choose, of their own free will, to take away the free will of others every day.
To actually answer the question, no. I don't think I would make that decision about an entire population--or the entirety of humanity itself. But if I could protect others by taking away the free will of certain individuals who would be choosing to endanger the free will of others anyway, I would.

The concepts of 'good' and 'evil' are worthless without choice. Without choice, there's no capacity for thought, or development, or change.
But I'm betting you don't believe in redemption, either.

The concepts of 'good' and 'evil' are so overshadowed by the intermittent shades of gray that anyone claiming one or the other is lying. You can lean more towards one than the other, but that's it. The world is an ugly place, with humanity as its darkest stain. As much time as we've had for change, it hasn't happened yet.
People still lie, cheat, and steal. People still kill.

I have lived far longer than you can comprehend. I know in painful detail what humans are capable of. I have more reason to hate this world and these people than you will ever have the misfortune to have.
But you know what? It's not their fault. We were created this way. And we are kept from changing by the same God who tells us we are sinful and must repent. He keeps humanity miserable, so they will turn to His salvation.
Humans are more than capable of that change. But it's a choice they have to make--if it's made for them, no one will ever learn anything. That's why it's come this far.

The majority of people are never going to make that choice--to do what is right. If it's easier to kill someone, they will; if it brings them pleasure to kill, they will do it then, too.
The best we can do is eliminate the problem. That will allow those in the light to flourish. Then, and only then, will there be a change.
And even then, that decision isn't 'right.' Quite the reverse. But it is necessary.
