Voice|Not as Planned

[There is a long silence. A long, doom-filled silence, before a very familiar voice, tight with barely-controlled fury, comes across the network.]

I am only going to ask this once, and I expect an answer to be forthcoming promptly.

What is the meaning of this?

[Sigh. :c] You returned to normal before I did, Naoya-kun. ...Though that would be '-san' now, wouldn't it?

...You're still technically older than I am.

[SO THIS KIND OF BREAKS HIS BRAIN A LITTLE.]

[BETTER CONFUSED THAN ANGRY? ;; Also this confuses him too.]

I am? Our home worlds function differently, so wouldn't you still have been born before me, at least according to your Earth? Or are you just talking about the physical age? Since I was never reincarnated and reborn, then yes, I'm definitely older than you in that sense.

Something like that. The timelines are hardly consistent.

That's more because of the differing realities of our world, though. Somarium just pools us together.

[Pause.] ...How are you feeling, Naoya-san? [He's serious. And if you think that's concern, well, it's because it is.]

I don't think you really want me to answer that.

[You really, really don't. The skirt itches like the dickens. D:]

I'd still like to know.

...Though I suppose it doesn't matter than much, now. You were shy and quiet, and you didn't remember like I do. In the end though, I still didn't really manage to make you smile during that past week, even without all that luggage.

There was always luggage.

I was never one to smile. [You were there. That's all that really counted.]

There were less then, and I had a chance. Our circumstances may have been vastly different, but the feeling of isolation and exclusion is still the same, or at least, similar. I could have tried harder, but there's no point dawdling about the past.

You've done enough. There's no need to feel guilty, and he won't when he returns, will he?

Yeah, that's true. If you're back to normal, then I will be too, soon.

Still, Kiyoshi-kun's back. I'm happy for you about that, Naoya-san, but even above being the King of Bel and the favored son in your household, he's still your only brother. I know that you already know this, and I'm just being a reminder, but if you can help it, don't let the same thing that happened to mine happen to yours.

[Twitch.]

I'd die another 6,000 years over before I let him suffer my fate.

He doesn't have to specifically suffer your end, though. There are many ways that your brother can slip through your fingers, even if you clench them into fists. Just... please be careful. I don't want that to happen to either of you, even if I won't be there to see it.
