While I'm sitting here waiting to get the domain name shit figured out (3rd call to hosting service-at least this time I got someone who understands; or, it could be that I'm just making more sense in explaining the problem...after all, I've had lots of practice), I might as well start my "Houses of the Holy" recap.
Well, crap. I can't find my notes. I'm just going to have to go on the screencaps to job my memory.
I know the episodes with religious overtones are the highly controversial ones; and all the "hep" kids bitch about them. But me? I love these types of episodes. And what I love about Supernatural is that they never (so far, anyway) take the easy way out. Every time I watch this episode, I marvel at the theological and moral discussions that could be brought up about Father Gregory; the discussions of humans vs. angels. How did Father Gregory believe he was doing God's will? What drove him to seek vengeance?
Dean's talk with Sam in the church is heart-breaking. How quickly he moves from being protective of Sam, to argumentative, and then to just plain sadness. I love how his voice breaks when he talks about their mom. In past episodes, I've commented on Dean's Mommy Issues. I think we begin to see them here, and then of course, in "What Is and What Should Never Be." Of all the desires in all of Dean's life, the one he wishes for above all is that Mary had never died.
I'm not particularly fond of the ending. I think it would have been better to end with Sam's disappointment and possible loss of faith. Dean's comment that perhaps he saw "God's will," just didn't seem convincing. I won't go into the reasonswhy I think so here. They're long, and weighty, and highly personal. And it would take away from the pretty (& not so pretty) pictures.
So, let's get the most painful out of the way first; the un-22m's:
Worst. Hair. Ever.
Withdrawal from one's addiction is not pretty, even if it is "only" the Magic Fingers.
We got a great shot of Dean flipping over the fence in "Asylum" but no one captured Sam's lovely body roll over the dumpster. All I could find was the start of it. I think it's a Dean!girl conspiracy!
Then we got the flask that launched a thousands debates. Is Dean an alcoholic or not?
I have GOT to make an icon out of this cap!
"Man, Jared's butt is really flat." (Don't anybody steal my idea!)
The Emmy's new category: Best performance by a set of eyelashes.
And finally, the 22mms.
