A 16-year-old boy was killed Sunday night and another teen critically hurt when a rental truck police believe was fleeing the scene of a retail theft in Gurnee slammed into the teens' car at an intersection in Wheeling, authorities said today.

The crash occurred at 8:18 p.m. at the intersection of Dundee and Schoenbeck Roads in Wheeling. A U-Haul rental truck carrying two people ran a red light and struck the passenger side of a Ford Taurus at a high rate of speed, according to an initial police report on the accident.

Police in Buffalo Grove said that at one point officers were chasing the truck, but it was not immediately clear if police were still chasing the suspects when the crash occurred.

The impact caused the truck to penetrate two feet into the passenger side of the Taurus, police said. The passenger, Corey Diamond, of Arlington Heights, was pronounced dead at 9:42 p.m. Sunday at Northwest Community Healthcare, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The driver of the Taurus was in critical condition as of this morning. His identity was not released. Police arrested the occupants of the U-Haul at the scene.

Neither Wheeling nor Gurnee police were available for further comment on the accident as of 6:30 a.m.

RIP COREY DIAMOND!!!!!!!
