Hey everyone, hey! It's time for the SECOND REPORT! These will continue to be insanely in-depth, because we have to journal, and it turns out blogging counts, but it's gotta be really detailed, SO.
Alright, yesterday!
Okay! So. Yesterday morning, I woke up nice and on-time; a bit early, in fact! I was scuttling through my clothes to decide what to wear, and eventually decided on my new BodyLine BxP coordinate. ...It's cute, I took some pictures. :D
Called home to check in with mom and dad, then bustled off to class. :D My fantasy illustration class is really neat. I mean, geez,
Mark Schultz? HECK YES.
Our assignment is to create six illustrations from an assigned Japanese story; the one I chose (either this or Gojira. Yes, Godzilla. lulz.) was from the Kaiden, of
Hoichi the Earless. Pretty neat story. 8D I'm having fun thinking of ways to interpet it. Of course, when I first heard "child emperor" I immediately thought of Larsa.
ANNAY.
ANYHOW.
And, SEQU-Japan is pretty awesome too with Samford Greene (is that a cool name or what?) I've learned a ton about inking, and these guys are so neat and down to earth. :D Honestly, what mostly inspires (and intimidates the CRAP out of me) is my peers. I'm one of four sophomores on the trip, and as one of the few who was picked to go, I feel I really should pull my weight and produce amazing stuff. I feel like I haven't been. Good news is, I'm only four days in, really, so I can catch up. But... I still have a ways to go. Eek!
Now to the fun business I'm sure you all really want to know about! After that we jetted off to Ueno Park! It was sort of cloudy and threatened to rain, and very cold, so Ueno was a bit of a challenge. :D But we made our way to the National History museum where we were greeted by...
Moyoshimon!
It turns out they were having an exhibit on microbes and fungus, and the Moyoshi were the little mascots and told the information about the different fungus. So we all herded inside, and bustled into the exhibit covered in cutesy Microbes! :D It was all in Japanese, so we couldn't exactly read it, but the cool thing was the HUNDREDS of fugus they had on display!
Yeah. I know. Weird. Fungus.
BUT! I started thinking of the fungus as shapes or what they would be besides mushrooms and fungus. Like the patterns and markings looked like fabric to me; or some of the mushroom caps looked like hats! Some of them just looked... well, they were weird. But I could see them as veils, or as skirts. Hallo, faerytiems? I took a bazillion reference photos to use them later. 8D
Then we went into a room that was filled with taxidermy. Now, now, don't leap to conclusions. Not just creepy stuffed animals. Rows and rows of glass cases bursting with butterflies and beetles and fish and birds! I could find faery wings in the beetles and butterflies and angels' wings with the birds, and mermaid's companions with the fish and her jewelry box in the shells. You know, so many anime artists really slack when it comes to referencing things like this, and I feel personally that even just looking at things that could be cobbled and peiced together like this was really, really rewarding.
We went to another floor with awesome Dinosaur skeletons- lots of them! There was an enormous whale skull that was really creepy and intriguing to me. I think it was because the proportions vertically were almost human or a recognizable mammal, but they were completely skewed out of proportion. SO! For my Illustration assignment, I think I'm going to be giving all of the ghost samurai whale skull heads and fish skull heads and such. :D Mark really liked it, which was good enough for me!
But, I must confess. I CANNOT DRAW DINOSAURS. OR ANIMALS.
MARK SCHULTZ CAN DRAW
FRIGGIN DINOSAURS.
...NO PRESSURE OR ANYTHING. But he was like a kid in a candystore and that was fun to watch! My dinosaurs looked more like swans. But he said they were cute and that was my brand, so roll with it. :D
The funny part is, what fascinated me, and what I drew most at the museum, was not the exhibits, it was the people looking at the exhibits! Hoardes of Schoolgirls shuffling through, squealing at the bugs and cooing at the butterflies, chattering and clicking on their cellphones. Businessmen squinting at squids and high school boys chuckling about dinosaurs. I drew a bunch of them, and then they noticed, and asked me in cute English to get their picture with me (I remembered I was Lolita, and that I guess I was a little more interesting then the average Gaijin. I guess?
I had my fill of the museum pretty early, so I squirreled myself away somewhere where the security couldn't see me painting and used my watercolors to explore the whole fungus-clothes idea. :D
THEN~
We were told we only had three hours at Akihabara, since they forgot that Akihabara, or most of it, closed at 8 that night instead of 10 like it normally does. SO. RUSH.
We scrambled around to find Animate. On the way, I saw a store of only Gundams. :D SWEET, HUH? They were playing 00 in the background, and I thought, "I hear Tieria 8D" and there was Celestial Being EVERYTHING and FFFF it was awesome. 8D BUT. So I saw a little Haro hanging out in the glass case, and asked about her(Yes. Haro is a her. I've decided. SO THERE.) But the guy said she was looong sold out. Now. We'll get back to the Haro!Search later, but I picked up some things for my two favorite Gundamtards and moved along.
YAY GASHAPONS HOORAY. I got a bunch of Kuroshitsuji mini pencil-boards (took a few tries, LOL) and some Gundam Ones. Later on, I saw the wonderful SZS CHIBI PHONESTRAPS~! I tried to get Sensei; I got Straight-Down-The-Middle-Girl FOUR TIMES. FOUR. And Fuura once (Annay, your little sunshine is going to you) and Kiri(hermit-girl), which is appropriate, since she's my favorite of the students! (I later found Sensei un-capsuled in Nakano. All good. :D) Oh, Gashapons, ILU. You eat my 100ys.
ANYWAY. ANIMATE.
OMFG ANIMATE.
MY HEAD SORT OF EXPLODED I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DESCRIBE THE AWESOMENESS THAT IS ANIMATE.
Now, first I have to tell you, you CANNOT take pictures in Animate. SO, I'm just gonna try to explain it to you. Which is really hard.
Okay, I got an idea how: Okay. Picture a con Dealer's room, with all up-to-date goods, and not the same Naruto/Bleach crap they've had year after year after year and are at EVERY con. The weird, small fandoms, the unusual goods. Yeah? Got it? OKAY PUT THAT INTO EIGHT FLOORS AND YOU HAVE ANIMATE.
Alright, alright, so only two floors are goods, but STILL. OMFG TWO FLOORS. Second floor, I was greeted first by a HUGE poster of the 00 Gundam Meisters and a table full of their goodies (Not even all of it!) and then look right next to it, and there's a huge chunk of shelf dedicated to Zetsubou Sensei. (GLEE!) I look down a ways, and there's ANOTHER chunk for Kuroshitsuji, right next to the chunk for NABARI NO OU.
BRB DYING A LOT.
LLALALALLA LET'S JUST SAY I BOUGHT A LOT. THERE WERE DOUJINSHI FOR LIKE $3 OR $5. SORTED INTO PAIRINGS. (I RAIDED THE LOTIE SECTION, LADIES. Though apparently Nabari doujin like...doesn't exist.) FFFF I GOT IN SO MUCH TROUBLE. I won't bore you, but LOL I TOOK A PICTURE YOU'LL SEE IT LATER. SO MUCH STUFF.
Okay. Nao. Confession tiem. Anna? Sofi?
I could NOT find Haro at either Akihabara OR Nakano. I think honestly the best bet to get her would be to get her off of Ebay, unfortunately. :C
BUT.
BUT.
BUT.
FEAR NOT LOVELIES. I won't be incredibly specific, but I have a purple pile and a green pile respectively for each of you. 8D And other fun things I've gathered. SO. Hopefully it'll make up for me not being able to find Haro. ;O; I still really really want her. Maybe I should get her on Ebay and she can be a communal Haro??
On the way home, I went and did Purikura! It was sort of silly by myself, but it was really fun and really cute and I'm going to drag Amber and Grace in there with me next time.
Now, unfortunately this is only YESTERDAY, as I am being pressured by like... six people to use the computer right now, so I'll come back with my report of Nakano and the FRICKIN GHIBLI MUSEUM tomorrow, kay?
XOXOXOXOXO
