Unfortunately, part of what makes cancer so terrible is that it is entirely possible that you can live a perfectly healthy life and still get diagnosed with it. We face potential carcinogens every day - any burning organic material, in fact, has the potential to be a carcinogen. Our bodies often have cells that become cancerous, and usually our immune systems recognize this and destroy them. But if a person has a genetic predisposition, or perhaps was exposed to a mutanagenic substance during their life, it may not matter how healthy of a life they have lead. My father was a similarly healthy man, and he was diagnosed with lymphomic cancer. Once he told my mom that when he was a kid, he and his friends used to ride their bikes behind trucks spraying DDT before they knew it was a carcinogen. That might have been enough. Who knows. All through our lives we are all always at risk of one thing or another, but what matters is that we continue with our lives and enjoy them for what they are while we have them. And I'm confident that Dave and his father have done and will continue to do just that.

Well Jesus Christ! That just goes back to the whole notion of, "Well we're all gonna die anyway so why not prolong it?"

God damned cancer. It seems like all this time I've been exercising, staying clear of running microwaves, and not getting buzzed off of carbon monoxide and frieon is all for naught....... now I'm paranoid.

lol - well caution never hurts, and it can help. i'm just saying that this is not an entirely inexplicable occurrence, shocking and painful though it is. it helps sometimes to understand what's going on and not just wonder why.
